Pentagon to end F-22 jets

Conventional war concept is over for now.

They said the main battle tank had its day too.

Stryker, as technologically wonderful as it is, was very vulnerable to $200 RPG-7 rounds.

It makes you wonder why the US navy needs 12 carriers if the days of conventional war are over.

F 35 is great no doubt about it but F 22 is far far better than F 35

Even if you keep the employees working at other jobs the US is losing unrecoverable technical expertise. High end manufacturing needs to be kept going or you lose the skill sets. The Air Force needs 300+ of these and now the only way to keep the program alive is to sell it to allies.

Eh, I doubt that the US is losing unrecoverable technical expertise. The Engineers are not going to disappear or go work for Airbus, and plenty of the skills learned designing and manufacturing the F-22 will make it to future militarily aircraft, and to some degree the civilian sector. Its not like Lockheed Martin can mind wipe former employees. The march of progress continues unabated. I agree though, the mismanagement of the project over the years was fairly stunning.

US has around 180 F22 raptors which are more than enough from stealthy specialized missions. F-35 will be sufficient as a backbone fleet. I'm glad there is a new perspective in pentagon.
