American military flags in the past have sourced materials like ink or fabric from overseas

American flags purchased by the Department of Defense must now be 100% produced and sourced in the United States, according to rules that went into effect Friday.

Before the rule amendment, American flags purchased by the military weren’t necessarily American-made, and while the major vendors for the Department of Defense are American companies, flag material such as ink or fabric could have been sourced abroad, reports USA Today.

“Our men (and) women in uniform should serve under American-made flags,” Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Calif., said on his Facebook page last week.

The Defense Department purchases around 1,000 to 2,000 Stars and Stripes flags annually for purposes such as flying them over the Pentagon, military bases and ships, and burial flags for military personnel killed in action. Under the new rules, all will be entirely made in America.

Pakistan should do the same...

There will always be a global market for cheap Made in China US flags to be burnt or stomped upon, given the "suitable encouragement" from many quarters. :D

We don't care what our customers do with it, they can stomp on it or burn it as much as they like.

Though I doubt they would do the same with their expensive electronic devices, all of which were made in China too.

If you paid for it, it's yours. Until the next generation of smart phones comes out, and you need to buy a new one. :P

You should start a site and offer US flags which are specifically for burning (bulk pack depending on crowd size and duration of protest) and stamping over. With features like slow burn, fast burn and machine wash wrinkle free for stamping and using again.

Flag is made to respect, what do you think if some one start making Indian flag and advertise on internet solely "for burning"?

I hope you are just joking.

How many flags will the pentagon buy annually?

They are only making a fool out of themselves having to revive a dead and buried business that will surely cost multiple folds more expensive than buying overseas and what impact does it have on annual budgets that always want to cut corners! I dont think their veterans will be too happy for getting their benefits / subsidies cut in anyway.

They have no problem making t-shirts, pants and under-wears out of flags, but have issues regarding the material it uses.

Funny americans.

let them waste workforce for it, it means less people who will build weapons or sit at wallstreet. Also china is already out from this business and moved on to more productive industries, while cloths manufactering went to bangladesh now

Its not cost cutting. Made in US is costlier anyways. The decision has nationalistic approach.

People seem to take it too far. If they country itself, the Gov't, and its institutions do business with other countries, why can't this be apart of that massive volume of trade.
