I found it a bit strange that in the period of approximately one month, three big components of China's Belt and Road BRI in Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Philippines have had pro-China govt's ousted and replaced with pro-Western govt's in rapid succession.

Just figured I would make this observation.

.
BongBongMarco is pro-China and his VP is Sara Duerte in the first place.
Pakistan and Sri Lanka are really suspicious though.
Also check out the situation in Thailand.

Can you give me a crash course on Marcos? I know media is bullshitting everyone but I am curious what people from the region actually think of him.

What's going on in Thailand?

He's a descendant of Marcos, long time ruler of Phillipines.
Currently Bong Bong Marcos is actually banned from entering the US because of Sr. Marcos pissing off the CIA.

Thailand currently has an ongoing protests, foreign-funded: https://www.wikiwand.com/en/2020–2022_Thai_protests

Imran was not pro CPEC. Sharif brothers are seen as better partners for their track record in CPEC. Imran has reportedly slowed down CPEC and tried to renegotiate deals much to the displeasure of China.

Agree that Sri Lanka has a pro BRI government

Landay ka Kissinger is trying to make his place in the American system, inshallah he’ll fail.

Damn I did not know that.

From somebody who knows nothing about Philippines, it seems to me that this would be a case of a guy from a family that historically was liked by the US in private but US publicly could not admit this due to human rights reasons? Is this a correct assessment? And how did he end up in bad books of CIA?

And what does China think of him?

Imran Khan realized it's a mistake and make the amendment. He is trying to align Pakistan with China and Russia and got the boot by American influence.

Chinese officials have a better working relationship with Shahbaz. The NCV by opposition was on the cards from last year. It is just PTI's claim that geo strategic alignment is reason for regime change. If you think about it, Pakistan is only a regional player in South Asia. US or Europe would prefer for every country to be with them, but don't actually loose a big deal if Pakistan decides to go other way.

For the little bit of US: https://www.quora.com/Why-did-the-U-S-support-the-Philippine-President-Ferdinand-Marcos?share=1

Bong Bong Marcos seems neutral on China.

. .
In the end, they will back again and again and again.

Politics is expensive.

Lets rehash that - the Sharif’s are better at pushing useless debt trap projects like the ones in Sri Lanka because they make kickbacks whereas IK was being more frugal with where the investment was going. That doesn’t mean that he wasn’t aligning Pakistan with China and Russia which really got him the boot.

This comment was to make a point that Shahbaz had a good working business relationship with the Chinese. CPEC is China's capstone for BRI. CPEC and BRI are seen by America as not in its interest. By hitting the breaks on CPEC, Imran was arguably playing to American interest?

The idea that some CPEC projects were debt trap is tangential to this discussion. It may or may not be true. But let's save that for another thread. Because I don't want to say that Imran was bad for Pakistan's sovereign interests here. Just that Shahbaz is just as good or even better for China's expectations from Pakistan
