From what my memory recollects ,

BEFORE PAKISTAN TASTED DEMOCRACY lolypop
9 Rupee was equal to 1 Dollar in 1981, yes after 3 wars with India
and also with Afghan refugee crisis was handled, only 9 Rupees

The currency strength reflected in fashion and life style

Pakistanis of the 70's and 80's enjoyed a life style similar to that of western citizens from US or Canada based on strength of their currency

If you got a government Job or in Banks you enjoyed a easy life

However his family business suffered losses due to Nationalization of Companies like Steels , he has something to prove get his stuff back

Well he got involved in smaller level in Government in 80's when rupee was 10 rupee to dollar being a minister.

Before Nawaz Term:
By the time he became a Head of state Pakistani Rupee was at $20.00

After: (devaluation of 10 Rupees in 3 years)
1990-1993 Nawaz came to power (Caused a major constitutional problem got dismissed)

Pakistani Rupee was Rs $30 for 1 USD . Cunning , and cut throat he sat with Mulla when he needed to he , he washed cars belonging to Zia when needed , and he smiled for the camera. He presented himself as a trust worthy man for Military & Islamist , because it was good for getting votes

Yellow Cab Scheme died miserably due to lack of parts and loan takers defaulted on loan. However when we as kids traveled back it was nice to sit in new cars then rickshaw or broken taxis (Short lived planning same as Metro Project)

Karachi circular railways , which ran and made money since 1974 , started to die eventually it closed down in 1999

His decisions to open Pakistani Air for new airlines effected profits of PIA

PIA was his death star , and he put few dents in PIA by allowing other airlines to operate Pakistani local cities

Only Nawaz could pull this off, he just focused his force on the goal

Before Nawaz Term : $40

After Nawaz Term: devaluation of 11 Rupees in 2 years
1997 -1999 Nawaz came to power (Caused issue by confrontational behavior with Army). Fired few generals and meddled in army's affairs rather then focus on economy

Pakistani Rupee was - Rs 51 for 1 USD. He came back with slogan of change after PPP failed, with corruption and started anti corruption cases against PPP heads to force them out of country.

Nawaz also was the one who started a war with Supreme/High court judges he argued and disrespected the judicial system to pass his own laws and refused to accept highcourt or supreme court judges 1997. Changed laws where party member could not vote against the party on issues as it happens in USA republican could vote similar to Democrat if he agrees in principle on idea.

Formal apology was issued in 2006 (Before the crisis that took out Musharaf) because by then Nawaz needed the lawyers to help him ...

He ended up firing the Court judge , and then President and changing laws to fit his own purpose. In fact he was the first one to put Courts and Head of state position in direct confrontation.

After 7 months devaluation of 13 Rupees

2013- Present Nawaz came to power (Cause allegation of vote rigging)
Pakistani Rupee was Rs 108 for 1 USD.

The return was not possible initially as we know Pakistani Law forbade anyone to come to power 3rd time

Not learning from the 97 fiasco against judges , where he attacked them this time he used them , using his mind control techniques to oust Musharraf and cunningly changed the law , to remove the clause which forbade anyone to become a leader for Third time

Armed with new Jedi powers attained from Saudi Arabia

• He mind controlled lawyers
• He changed the laws to make himself new head of state
• Went to IMF to lend him financial support
  
• Shook hands with Zardari
• Saw his nemesis , Chief Justice retire

Compare to President Musharaf
1999- 2007 Rupees went 51 Rupees to 59 Rupees (In 8 Years increase of only 8. rupees, marginal increase of 1 rupee per year). If there were no flood/ Earth quake he might have even reversed the rate to 35 Rupees

In 96 months , increase of mere 8 rupees vs USD price

The guy went on International stations always defending Pakistani interest , and rightfully going against terrorism , and risked his life

Nawaz Sharif's 3 + 2 + 1 Year Government = 6 years (72 Month)
Rupee value Went down by $34 Rupees

What is legacy , yellow cab scheme (banks lost money), Metro Bus, Road project

Went straight to IMF (borrowing cash)

vs

Musharaf Sahib 8 Years (96 Month) Rupee value went down by $8 Rupee only

Plus we got F16 C/D, AWACS, P3 Orion, OHP, C130, Cobra Helo, GWADAR PORT , RAILWAY ENGINES, NADRA, Higher Education Commission

Pakistan focused on Reducing the DEBT (international debt) under his term saving billions for Pakistani Economy


Seems like to me more damage was done in every term Nawaz Sharif was in power

Who care, if your memory has only lies in your head.

When Musharaf went down in Mar 2008, dollar was already at 69. And when NS Assumed power in May 2013 dollar was 99 (not 95), also today dollar is 105 and going down continuously. Even that credit goes to Musharaf for bring terrorism inside Pakistan for opting someone else war, and causing NS hard time in bringing foreign investment.

Musharaf had his moment in 2004 when he could simply make use of foreign investments and IT boom in Pakistan favor, but he opted to choose power, rather then working to help Pakistan grow. And India toke advantage of that, and now they are on the top in IT.

And who can forget Musharaf's Famous NRO, which allow Zardari to become powerful, and bring Pakistan to the toes. NS shaken hands with Zardari, yet whole PPP is running here n there because of scare of getting caught. Where as Musharaf even freed him when he could write the letter to Swiss bank to bring money back to Pakistan. (on the top, 8000+ criminals were freed, who ruined the state for next 5 years)

The figures I took were from Archives for Currency rate values and Pakistan had earth quakes in 2004-2005ish which is why new elections were out of question

Democracy between 1980-2013 has done some serious damage not even matched by damage done vs war against india

I agree NRO was a mistake however one cannot disregard the GAME nawaz brings in manipulation

Quite cunning , I have been reviewing his moves a real chess player he is

With all his failiures , some how some way he finds a way

The problem with Musharaf was / is is that he is an idealist , and the world we live in there is no room for an idealist , specially in a political role.

Idealist are best in Military where code is followed. Or perhaps on battle field where two warriors end the hostilities after truce is called, even in sporting event for those that come from sporting background

However , politics is all about "Manipulation"

He is a very smart man , knows how to come to absolute power from position of no power.......infact his strategies of handling military , judges, parties and , minpulation should be studied in school

However , from economy stand point he has no proven record of success in last 3 2 terms (plus time as a minister under Zia sadly)

To me, he look polite as well as patriotic. Musharaf was also looking patriotic, but main issue was his hunger for power, try to control everything with it. Where he simply ignore the fact, not everything is black or white, there are many colors around the world.

Anyhow, Pakistan is in bad situation, if anyone want to good to Pakistan. He should try to help NS, rather then breaking the Pakistan.

All I know is he is estimated to be worth 1.5 Billion Dollar's net worth

He has history of problems

a) Started off with army , best friends with Zia , Shariyat's implementation biggest supporter.
b) Attained power !!! Due to his strategic YES Boss mentality
c) Cried wolf during PPP government called them corrupt
d) Came to power started court actions on PPP
e) Fired Army generals , Fired judges , Changed Laws of voting for party members
(97-99), created his own PML branch, back-stabbed his own political party
f) Promoted Musharraf and got into trouble with Army exiled
g) Came back apologized to courts and judges , again charming them with smiles and roses
h) Staged a friendly relation with PPP
i) Ousted Musharraf from power thru deception, more back stabbing
He himself treated courts badly in 90's but now he wants Musharraf trialed
j) Changed the law in Pakistan so he can be head of state again 3rd time
k) Vote rigging, opposed biometric checks and usage in elections
l) Fake cases on Musharraf

Pakistani Rupee has fallen from 9 Rupee to Dollar to 108 rupees to dollar during his time

One thing that has always happened is when Nawaz Sharif comes to power , country always goes on brink of Bankruptcy
