Panel-Maker BOE Ramps Up Move Into Health Care With New Campus

BOE Technology Group Co. Ltd. is moving deeper into the medical sector, with plans to spend at least 13.6 billion yuan ($2 billion) to build a health care campus in Beijing.

Located in the Beijing suburb of Fangshan, the campus will span 700 acres and is slated for first-phase operations in 2022, according to a company filing (link in Chinese) to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange on Thursday.

The project will consist of new facilities for research and development, medical teaching, hospitals and a collaboration center with global partners.

Does BOE make good panels or do we still depend on Samsung or LG?

Still depend on Samsung and LG for high end panels and OLEDs.

But display is not something that China should worry about, because while not being at top, BOE is still good enough.

What you should worry about is memory (DRAM and NAND) where there is no Chinese company as of now, and the ones that are about to enter the field keep delaying their production timelines. Even the ones who do enter will come with totally outdated products.

Then there is RF module, still heavily reliant on Qorvo, Skyworks, and others.

CPU, heavily reliant on Intel and AMD.

GPU, no chinese company of any worth here.

FPGAs, chinese companies are minnows.

Etc.
