BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Senior Palestinian officials Hanan Ashrawi and Saeb Erekat on Friday condemned a report that Israel had approved 430 more housing units in Jewish-only settlement in the occupied West Bank, calling for international action to end Israeli "impunity."
"Once again, Palestinian lives, rights and lands are being violated in the service of Israeli election campaigns," PLO Executive Committee member Hanan Ashrawi said in a statement, referencing upcoming Israeli elections.
"Israel is intent on providing the ICC with further evidence of its lawlessness."
"With the escalation of its illegal settlement activities, the Israeli government is once again exposing its true intentions of creating 'Greater Israel' at the expense of the strategic requirements for peace," she continued.
"Israel has clearly demonstrated that it is not a partner for peace nor a member of the international community that respects international law."
The statement came after an NGO monitoring Israeli settlement activities said that 430 new housing units were approved for a number of settlements across the occupied West Bank.
Israel has moved around 550,000 Israelis into Jewish-only settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem on lands confiscated from Palestinians. The settlements are built on hills in and around Palestinian towns and villages.
