Pakistan's new PM could visit Australia
Early discussions have been held about the possibility of newly-elected Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani visiting Australia.
Australian High Commissioner Zorica McCarthy met Mr Gilani in Islamabad on Monday.
A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokeswoman confirmed late Tuesday that a casual discussion about a possible visit had been held between the pair.
"They had some discussion about the possibility of the prime minister visiting Australia," the spokeswoman told AAP.
Mr Gilani has some relatives in Australia, the spokeswoman added.
The new prime minister faces massive challenges to bring together a nation that is politically splintered and dominated by tribal warlords in the north.
