Pakistani student was being questioned by detectives last night after he was arrested at Birmingham airport on suspicion of terror offences.

The 22-year-old had arrived in the UK on a flight from Dubai and was held on suspicion of being in possession of a document likely to be of use to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, a spokesman for West Midlands Police said.

The force last night declined to give further details on the nature of the document that was seized from the suspect when he arrived at the airport. It was not immediately clear if he was arrested as a result of an intelligence-led operation or whether the document was found as part of a routine check of his luggage. He was being questioned by West Midlands Police's counter-terrorism unit.

The Pakistani national is studying in the UK at a "fully accredited institution" and has a student visa, police said. He was arrested under section 58 of the Terrorism Act. Under the Act, anyone found guilty faces a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison.

. . .

The man, who police said is a Pakistani national and studying in the UK at a "fully accredited institution", has been released on police bail while inquiries continue.

A police spokesman added: "The arrest was not as a result of any ongoing investigation and there was no immediate threat to the public."

Either very stupid to be carrying such items or a terrorist out of the movie 4 lions not sure which is worse.

.
As far as i know- terrorists suspects are not released on bail- in UK-

. .
Nope- To add to this- even at a hunch of being associated with terrorism- foreign nationals specially Pakistanis are deported - regardless guilty or not guilty-

In many cases the Pakistani suspects (students) were held for months without being charged or proved for terrorism and deported-

.
Probably nabbed because he had a Muslim name.

"My name is Khan and I'm not a terrorist!"

.
In September, eight people were arrested after a surveillance operation and three of them, now in custody, are awaiting trial on charges of planning a suicide-bombing campaign in Britain.

In November, four men were arrested in the city and accused of raising funds for terrorism and travelling to Pakistan for terrorist training.

This case was just a issue in possession of a terror related document not as if he was charged plotting a 'terror act'

Investigation is ongoing he won't be leaving UK until he is cleared or charged.

harassment of Muslims by the airport official's in the west is an issue which needs to be addressed in a civilized manner along with the sting operation's in which some teens are deliberately set up by the undercover officials are also an issue a clear case of deliberately instigating a person to agree to an act & then arresting him/her in a sting operations are a case of pure psychological manipulations by the agencies these tactics are nothing but harassment of Muslims specially youth's & are a torturous, unethical & violations of basic human rights its plain & simple

Ensuring security is the number one priority and Pakistanis have already been charged on terror related offences in UK in the past.

According to Terrorism Act 2005- he was liable for a 90 days detention without being charged-

He has been granted a bail- points its not that serious-

I guess this guy was one of those impressionable young men that are prime targets for the jehadi scum to influence and misguide. Must have been carrying some extremist propaganda material in open view and got nabbed by the Cops...
