At least three Pakistani soldiers have been killed when a roadside bomb exploded in the restive Waziristan tribal region bordering Afghanistan.
The bomb struck soldiers who were on a patrol to check for mines ahead of a military convoy in South Waziristan.
Three soldiers were wounded in the attack, one report said.
Tension has been increasing along the border region following reports that Pakistan is preparing to carry out a limited offensive in North Waziristan.
Monday's attack involving a remotely-triggered improvised explosive device (IED) took place in the Ladha area of South Waziristan.
Militants in Pakistan have vowed to avenge the recent killings of al-Qaeda leaders Osama Bin Laden and Ilyas Kashmiri.
Many militants are believed to be sheltering in the semi-autonomous tribal regions of North and South Waziristan.
