Kumail Najiani, Pakistani-American stand up-comedian and actor, was nominated for an Oscar in the ‘original screenplay’ category for The Big Sick.

The Big Sick is a drama-romance that portrays about his romantic life that occurred with wife in real life, Emily Gordan. Kumail was the main protagonist as himself, Zoe Kazan was playing the role of girlfriend Emily as Holly Hunter and Ray Romano were cast as Emily’s parents.

With the help of his, Emily V Gordon, Nanjiani cowore his debut film.

“By depicting a Muslim family as like normal people, that’s its big political statement,” said Nanjiani in an earlier interview to Reuters.

“It’s important for kids to see themselves in the stuff they watch. But more than that, I think it’s important that people from different points of view are behind the camera telling the stories, writing them, directing them,” Nanjiani had said.

Well whether all do it or some, if it is wrong, it's wrong. And this dastardly character has said pretty nasty things about Pakistan, its culture and religion. To the people so worried about him "disgracing" (because children being raped, extremism, terrorism, violence against minorities don't exist in Pakistan) the countries name , I don't think you people know how stand up comedy works. Exaggeration and amplifying stereotypes is part of the act and done by all stand up comedians whether they're black,white or Asian. If anything he is promoting a moderate image of Pakistanis and god knows we need that.
