Pakistan has urged Myanmar authorities to investigate reports of massacre of Rohingya Muslims, Radio Pakistan reported Sunday.

In a statement, Foreign Office has expressed deep concern over reports of growing number of deaths and forced displacement of Rohingyas.

Pakistan has also demanded holding those responsible for massacre accountable and taking necessary measures to protect the rights of Rohingya Muslims.

Foreign Office said Pakistan will work with the international community in particular the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) for the purpose.

Pakistan deeply concerned over killing, displacement of Rohingya Muslims

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has expressed its deep concerned over reports of growing number of deaths and forced displacement of Rohingya Muslims.

In the statement issued by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan has urged authorities in Myanmar to investigate reports of massacre, hold those involved accountable and take necessary measures to protect the rights of Rohingya Muslims.

The statement says such reports, if confirmed, are a source of ‘serious concern and anguish’.

“In line with its consistent position on protecting the rights of Muslim minorities worldwide, Pakistan will work with the international community in particular the OIC to express solidarity with the Rohingya Muslims and to work towards safeguarding their rights,” it further reads.

More than 73,000 Rohingya Muslims have crossed into Bangladesh in the last 10 days desperately trying to escape spiralling communal violence in Myanmar´s Rakhine state and bringing with them harrowing tales of rape and murder at the hands of the military and Buddhist mobs.

More than 2,600 houses have been burned down in Rohingya-majority areas of Myanmar’s northwest in the last week, the government said on Saturday.

The clashes and army crackdown have killed nearly 400 people.

The Rohingya are denied citizenship in Myanmar and regarded as illegal immigrants, despite claiming roots that date back centuries. Bangladesh is also growing increasingly hostile to Rohingya, more than 400,000 of whom live in the poor South Asian country after fleeing Myanmar since the early 1990s.

PTI submits adjournment motion in NA over Rohingya crisis

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday submitted an adjournment motion in the National Assembly over the Rohingya crisis.

The motion submitted by PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr Arif Alvi, Asad Umar, Shafqat Mehmood demanded that the assembly should immediately raise the issue of persecution of Rohingya Muslims. The PTI leaders have also stated that houses have been torched in Rohingya-majority areas of Myanmar's Rakhine region.

‘Heartbroken’ Malala slams genocide of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar

It said that due to the sensitivity of the issue, a national policy on Rohingya crisis must be developed after an extensive discussion in the Lower House of Parliament.

Meanwhile, nearly 90,000 Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh since violence erupted in Myanmar in August, pressuring scarce resources of aid agencies and communities already helping hundreds of thousands of refugees from previous spasms of violence in Myanmar.

Nearly 90,000 Rohingya escape Myanmar violence as humanitarian crisis looms

The ensuing clashes and a major military counter-offensive have killed at least 400 people.

Rights monitors and Rohingya fleeing to neighbouring Bangladesh say a campaign of arson and killings by the Myanmar army aims to force them out.

The treatment of Buddhist-majority Myanmar’s roughly 1.1 million Muslim Rohingya is the biggest challenge facing leader Aung San Suu Kyi, accused by Western critics of not speaking out for the minority that has long complained of persecution.

The number of those crossing the border, 87,000, surpassed the total of Rohingya who escaped Myanmar after a much smaller insurgent attack in October that set off a military operation beset by accusations of serious human rights abuses.

. . . .
Action speak louder than words. The OIC needs to take a prompt action and take the issue to UN. It is currently more important than the NK problem.

.
Not really a Pakistani issue , unless Bangladesh supports Pakistan claim on Kashmir
Bangladesh has looked the other way on Kashmiri muslim issue for long time they are only crying foul becasue Refugee is coming into their country

We got immigrants from Afghanistan for 20-30 years and there is abuse against Kashmiri from Indians all the time while Bangladeshi government looks the other way.

Bangladesh should be ready to support the refugees and pay for their welfare

Bangladesh should take this chance to be a leader and cough up the bill for welfare of refugees

OIC should put sanctions on Myanmar, "no business with Myanmar till resolve of issue" should be stance of Muslim world.

Pakistan should push China to pressurize Myanmar for resolving the issue.

So why is there no business with India ? While they do Human Rights violation day and night no thank you Myanamar not my problem

Bangladesh is getting refugess , give them citizenships problem solved

. .
I think Bangladesh is quite capable to handle refuge issues they have lot of land to give and share resources

I think Pakistan hosted 15-20 Million Afghan refugees for 20-30 years , I am sure Bangladesh can also host 1-5 Million Refugees

If there is issue send all Refugees to India

Unless Bangladesh first changes it's universal stance it is quite illogical for Pakistan to get involved in this refugee mess

Not sure why Pakistan have to ruin our Business relations with Mynamar for their internal issues.

This is how things roll

a) Acknowledge the right of Kashmiri Muslims first
b) We will support your cause for refugee going back to Myanamar

  • Did Pakistan get involved in Yamen ? No
  • Did Pakistan get involved in Syria ? No
  • Did Pakistan get involved in Iraq ? No
  • Did Pakistan get involved in Libya ? No

Did Banglaesh sent us 50 Billion to help take care of Afghan refugees in 80's or 90's or 00's or present day ? No

So why the hell should be be getting involved in this case?

From a Geographical stand point , Bangladesh has been given enough money , land and resources to solve this issue 100% by their own resources

There are many bad things within Pakistan but yet we have courage to speak for our brothers and you will not find such courage even in Muslim develop countries like Saudia Arabia. That's why Pakistan is favorite among Muslim countries.

Why wait so long to simply give a statement? Waited so that Myanmar could get rid of as much of them as possible?

I can understand Pakistan or other countries as well not doing anything as it doesn't concern them. But if you're going to condemn them then why take so long?
