ABU DHABI: Pakistan has made another progress in the defence field as it's signs MoU with Ukraine for the joint production of tanks in Pakistan.

Pakistan and Ukraine signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) related to the defence sector on Monday.

The MoU was signed by Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain and of Ukroboronprom, the Ukrainian Defense Industry, General Director Romanov Roman.

The ceremony was also attended by Chairperson of Heavy Industries Taxila, Lieutenant-General Muhammad Naeem Ashraf, among other Ministry of Defense officials.

The representatives of the two states met during the five-day defence exhibition, titled 'IDEX-2017', currently being held in Abu Dhabi.

The two countries will collaborate on production, rebuilding and modification of tanks, according to the MoU.

“Pakistan and Ukraine’s collaboration on defence sector is integral for regional stability,” said Hussain while speaking on the occasion.

Ukrainian delegation head said “Pakistan and Ukraine are good defence partners. Al-Khalid Tank is an example of our partnership.”

The partnership between the two states will lead to the production of Al-Khalid tanks in Pakistan. “We will import technology to produce its [the tanks’] engine and parts in Pakistan under the partnership,” remarked Hussain.

Where it tells Ukraine Pakistan will jointly manufacturing tank. What I understood they night contemplating on AL KHALiD-2 from baseline alkhalid.

Its for Pakistan to produce and manufacture the tanks 1200hp diesel engines.

Good but does this mean Al khalid 2 is around the cornor!

Excellent news...that's the way to go...at least for now.. More JVs, more ToTs and more indigenous development. Let's expand this approach to the development of other systems especially A/Cs, choppers, space programs, missiles, etc

Didn't we just sign a deal for 200 1500hp engines for AK2 back in November last year. It was worth 600milion dollars which seemed a bit to off, since 3million per tank engine is a bit to much.Maybe there was something additional agreed as well that i am missing.

Some AK units are equipped with VARTA APS, so maybe APS 's are also part of the 600 million deal, Aswell as KOMBAT Missiles?

AK engine is imported from Ukraine other then this transmission along some other minor parts are also imported from Ukraine, so in short our share of indigenous production will increase near to maximum not sure what percentage of technology for engine manufacturing will be transferred, but one thing is sure our current share of 70% indigenous production will surely go up to 85%-90% even if not all of the technology will be transferred ....

BTW if the news for engine production is true then it might be indication for Al-Haider program ... (just a guess work nothing concrete) ....

AK uses French SESM transmission.
