Pakistan to skip hockey Asia Cup
By ANI

Lahore, May 26 (ANI): Pakistan will not participate in the forthcoming hockey Asia Cup to be held in Chennai in September, as it wants to give its players some rest before the Champions Trophy.

A Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) spokesman said the decision was taken to save the players from fatigue ahead of December's six-nation Champions Trophy to be played in Lahore.

"The PHF has decided to participate in a four-nation invitational tournament in Moscow and in another four-nation competition in China, but not in the Asia Cup which features the same teams that participated in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup recently," the Daily Times quoted the spokesman, as saying.

Besides hosts India, the tournament will feature South Korea, Malaysia, China, Bangladesh and Japan. (ANI)

Field Hockey: Pakistan confirm for Asia Cup in India

Jul 27, 2007

NEW DELHI (AFP) - Pakistan will take part in field hockey's Asia Cup in India in September after initially deciding to stay away from the tournament, officials said on Friday.

Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) secretary K. Jothikumaran told reporters that he had received Pakistan's confirmation for the 11-nation event to be held in the southern city of Chennai from September 1-9.

"We are glad Pakistan has agreed to play because they are one of the best teams in Asia and their presence will enhance the quality of the tournament," Jothikumaran said.

Pakistan and India have been grouped in separate pools for the preliminary league.

Pakistan have been drawn with Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore in group A.

The other group, comprising six teams, features South Korea, India, China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals.

The Koreans won the Asian Games title in Qatar last December defeating China 3-1 in the final.

Pakistan finished third, followed by Japan, India and Malaysia.

Does anyone care for hockey anymore really?

Pakistan will thrash all the big teams and then suddenly lose to a crappy one at a critical stage.

Consistency not fatigue is the problem.

Which cities of India are the matches being held? The Punjabi cities usually carry some Pakistani support due to proximity with the border.

Well heard even the some teams are skipping the Champions trophy in Pakistan too.
