Islamabad: Pakistan plans to build an international airport at Mirpur in Kashmir, the National Assembly was informed on Friday.

Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Barjees Tahir, said that the planning work for the project had been completed and after availability of funds the Mirpur airport would be constructed in two years.

I could see this being a MAJOR boost for the locals...

We all know how many people from Mirpur, Kotli, other parts of AJK, Kharian, Jhelum are residing in England and MIddle East...now instead of going to Islamabad, they would directly go to Mirpur. Win win.

But PIA would need to act fast and capture the market of this route. Emirates, Qatar, AirBlue, Shaheen etc would be licking their fingers right now. Emirates has already announced flights to Sialkot (expected to be upgraded to daily on 777).

PIA should not mess this up and capture this market.

I think this airport was long needed not for commercial but from armed forces perspective also ....

And 100% right about PIA .... they dont mess up... the management of PIA needs a re-vamp they have intentionally destroyed PIA step-by-step .... PIA does hard work of developing a route and then hands over the fruits to emirates ... this has been going on for past may be 15 years or so ... see the statistics..... and route developments especially from Dubai to Europe and Africa and u will see what actually happened.....

This is what im thinking about as well, now for us Mirpur airport will be almost next door compared to Islamabad/Lahore.

Good news for Kashmir development.

the way im looking it its not a very good idea. It means that int. agents can directly land at mirpur and Azad Kashmir is by far the most peaceful place in pakistan on which all the hawks have their eyes on!

My problem is that Brainwashed Mirpuri diaspora in UK they may create problems for us in future.

Thats what border controls are there for.

We must focus on effective policing, corruption free border police and normal police.

We will get there, the longer the country exists the more deep rooted and institutionalized it becomes in the minds of others. Just give it a bit of time.

To solve the problem we must know what is the root cause of problems

The corruption is there in India,China and US of A too and all of them r more prosperous then us.

The root problem is our overall system ie Capitalism

Nearly 50% of UK based pakistanis are from this area so please stop bullshiting here. My home is in Mirpur so i for one would be glad.
