Pakistan test fires nuclear-capable medium-range missile Hatf-4

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday successfully test-fired a medium-range ballistic missile Hatf-4 Shaheen-1 at the conclusion of the army's annual field training exercises, the military said.

A statement said that the Strategic Missile Group had launched the Shaheen-1 missile on Friday from an undisclosed location.

The nuclear-capable missile has a range of 700 kilometers (420miles). Pakistan routinely tests the various missiles in its arsenal, designed to match that of neighboring archrival India.

A Strategic Missile Group (SMG) of the Pakistan Army’s Strategic Force Command (ASFC) conducted a successful training launch of the Shaheen-1 (Hatf-IV) Medium Range Ballistic Missile.

The launch was conducted at the conclusion of the annual field training exercises of a Shaheen-1 Missile Group.

It may be recalled that the Shaheen-1 Ballistic Missile System, with a range of 700 kms, is an operationalised weapon system held by the ASFC and is routinely fired during training exercises by the troops of the ASFC.

The field launch exercise of the ASFC was witnessed by the Chief of the Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, senior military officers and scientists.

Addressing the troops in the exercise area, the COAS congratulated them on achieving high standards of training and excellent results.

He said that the nation had developed a strong nuclear deterrence capability and expected that the officers and men entrusted with the task of deterring aggression would continue to train hard and maintain professional excellence.

The Chief of Army Staff made it clear that Pakistan did not have any aggressive designs against anyone and Pakistan’s nuclear capability was solely for the purpose of deterring all types of aggression.

Referring to international concerns regarding speculative scenarios, he dismissed such concerns as unrealistic and based on a lack of understanding of Pakistan’s command and control mechanisms.

He said that the Pakistani Armed Forces were a highly professional, motivated and well trained force and were capable of safeguarding and securing nuclear assets against all categories of threat.

The nation stood behind the armed forces. He stressed that creating irresponsible alarm by certain quarters would be counter productive.

as far as long range missile are concerned so i think Pakistan is developing hatf6 ghauri 3 of 3000 kms....

Ghauri-3
Country: Pakistan
Class: IRBM
Basing: Road mobile
Payload: Single warhead
Warhead: Nuclear, HE
Propulsion: Multiple-stage liquid
Range: 3000-3500 km
Status: Development

Details

The Ghauri 3 is an intermediate-range, liquid propellant ballistic missile under development by Pakistan. It is considered to be an offshoot of the Haft 5 program. The missile reportedly started development in 1994 with a planned range of 3,000 km (1864 miles). However, recently statements from Pakistan claim a range of 3500 km (2175 miles). There is also a Ghauri 3A that has a reported range of 3500 km. It is possible that the program started in 2004. It is presumed to be road mobile and use an inertial guidance system, like previous Pakistani designs. These two missiles may serve as the basis for a satellite launch vehicle (SLV) based on the Taep'o-dong 1 (SLV).

The Ghauri 3 is likely designed for long-range strikes into India. It is nuclear capable and will probably be equipped to deploy nuclear warheads against civilian and military targets deep within India. There have been three wars fought between India and Pakistan since 1947, and there is a considerable danger that the next one would be nuclear. Both sides have been engaging in an arms race, of which the Pakistani Ghauri 3 and the Indian Agni-3 are the latest developments.

Pakistan reported in late May 2004 that it would be testing the Ghauri 3 in early June, but instead tested two Hatf-5 missiles, to a range of 1,500 km (932 miles).

Pakistan Completes 'Trials' of Ghauri-III Missile Engine
Islamabad The News 30 September 1999 page 10

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has successfully completed the trials of Ghauri-III missile's engine at Kahuta Research Laboratories on Wednesday.

An official said the trials were completed at 2:30 p.m. and the ballistic missile (Ghauri-III) would cover the range of over 3,000 kilometres.

Pakistan had already completed successful test flights of Ghauri-I and Ghauri-II, responding to Indian ballistic missiles Prithvi and two versions of Agni missiles.

The official said the engine test of Ghauri-III has enabled armed forces to target all the big cities of India, including Calcutta. The official, however, said that Pakistani missiles and nuclear program were for defensive needs. "We don't have any aggressive design but to defend every inch of the motherland is our right."

The official said that soon the nation would also hear good news about the indigenous achievements of the country's space program. Dr Qadeer Khan Research Laboratories are cooperating with Pakistan Upper Space and Atmospheric Research Commission (SUPARCO) in devloping indigenous rocket to launch satellites.

Earlier Kahuta Laboratories successfully tested three ranges of Gahuri missile ranging 1,500, 2,000 and 2,700 kilometres. Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission's scientists had also successfully completed the test flights of Shaheen missile, ranging 1,500 to 1,800 kilometres.

Testing of long range missiles is not a favorable situation for Pakistan right now. I am pretty sure we have the technology and we can make it happen very fast or we might already have it. But if test it remember when we tested Shaheen-2 we were not able to go more than 2000km due to our boundaries. The missile is of 2500km and we only tested it for 2000km so if we want to test more than that we will have to take certain permissions from international community which will be pain in the butt. So I think for now we are good. We should focus more on Cruise and other new technologies to counter the missile defense system. By the way anyone have any idea how many missiles there are in one batch? , if im not wrong i think this testing means another batch of Shaheen-1's are handed over to army.

Pakistan needs no permission for testing indigenously built Ballastic missiles but true that the situation of World Politics requires waiting for the right time for a test when required and will be tested.
