Pakistan’s Dewan Petroleum announces new significant gas discovery

Dewan Petroleum (Ptv.) Ltd., a Pakistani exploration and petroleum company and operator of Safed Koh Block (3070-10) has drilled well at Salsabil (Rodho) structure up to the depth of 3305 meters and made first Jurassic discovery in Chiltan Limestone and in the Cretaceous Sembar Sands.

The well flow rate in Chiltan was recorded as 16 mmcfd gas and 110 bbls per day of condensate at 40/64 choke with the wellhead pressure of 2120PSI.

The gas has a calorific value of 870 BTU/SCF. The perforation intervals are from 3284 meters up to 3124 meters.

The cretaceous Sembar sand flow rate was 1.0 mmcfd with calorific value of 930 BTU and perforation intervals are from 3025 meters to 2928 meters.

The flow rates in Sembar are expected to increase significantly after stimulation of the formation.

This discovery is believed to have opened a significant new play in general for exploration in Pakistan and could have material impact on the exploration potential of the Safed Koh Block itself in both Rodho and unexplored structure namely Afiband.

The gas bearing Salsabil (Rodho) structure in Chiltan has estimated closed area of 23 sq. km. and vertical closure of over 500 meters. The Company believes that this is a significant natural gas discovery and will add to the county’s gas reserves when fully developed and can produce substantial volume of gas along with condensate.

The Safed Koh Block is situated in the Tribal Areas of District Dera Ghazi Khan of Punjab Province and located west of Sulaiman foredeep in the Middle Indus Basin of Pakistan.

Dewan Petroleum (Pvt.) Ltd. has 60% interest in the Block whereas 30% interest belongs to Rally Energy (Safed Koh) Ltd. of Canada and 10% belongs to Oil & Gas Investment (Pvt.) Ltd. of Pakistan.

Dewan Petroleum (Pvt.) Ltd. is determined to invest more in Oil & Gas Sector and to become leading integrated Oil & Gas Company of Pakistan.

Italy's Eni starts gas output from Pakistan field

Tue Apr 15, 2008

MILAN, April 15 (Reuters) - Italian oil company Eni SpA (ENI.MI: Quote, Profile, Research) has started production from its Badhra natural gas field in Pakistan and completed boosting capacity at the Bhit treatment plant fed by Badhra, Eni said on Tuesday.

The Badhra and Bhit projects increase the Bhit plant capacity by 17 percent to 315 million metric standard cubic feet per day, it said in a statement.

Eni has completed commissioning Bhit's third train, it said. The Badhra field is about 250 km (155 miles) northeast of Karachi.

"Total investment in the Badhra Development and Bhit Acceleration Project will be approximately $50 million," Eni said.

Kirthar Joint Venture, the title holder of the Bhit and Badhra gas fields, comprises Eni, with a 40 percent share, Royal Dutch Shell Plc (RDSa.L: Quote, Profile, Research), with 28 percent, Pakistan's Oil & Gas Development Co. Ltd. (OGDC.KA: Quote, Profile, Research), with a 20 percent stake, and Premier Oil Overseas BV and Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Co., at 6 percent each.
