Haq's Musings: Pakistan Ranks in the Middle For Infrastructure and Logistics in 2014

The World Bank’s (WB) Logistics Performance Index (LPI) ranks Pakistan at number 72 for 2014, out of 160 countries.

LPI is ranking is based the efficiency of customs, border management and clearance as well as the quality of trade and transportation infrastructure. It also comprehends the quality of logistics services, the ability to track and trace consignments and the frequency at which shipments correctly reach their destinations on schedule.

The first LPI survey conducted in 2007 ranked Pakistan at number 68, which fell to a low of 110 in 2010 before recovering to 71st position in 2012.

Logistics performance is an important indicator of a nation's level of development and its ability to participate in global trade.

Another similarly important indicator is the ranking of a country on OECD survey ofeconomic complexity compiled by Massachusetts Institute of Technology. This indicator comprehends the diversity of products ad services traded and the number of trading partners. The more diverse the trade and trading partners, the higher the rank.Pakistan ranks 91 on this index among 144 countries as of 2012. It ranks higher than single-commodity oil exporting nations like Iran and Saudi Arabia but lower than thenewly industrialized Asian nations.

While Pakistan has made some progress on logistics and trade, it still has a long way to go to improve the lives of its citizens through infrastructure improvements and diversification of its products and services trade. Timely execution of Pak-China industrial corridor plans will hopefully help Pakistan make progress on this front.

lol. Look at NATO, OECD map mate. But I prefer every map we are involved with Northern Europe. You know what I mean :smokin:

If the pay is good, why not? Anywhere above 80K USD is good enough to move there.

I think with experience you might be able to fetch that....the salaries in Korea/Taiwan are already in 40,000 USD range, but if you are a specialist and have experience, say 5-10 years, why not? Because their average incomes are going to rise as well in that time.

I know that, but that'd be my starting salary here in US, and even more if I move to west coast, with a better living standard. For 40K USD, I'd rather go back to India and take a teaching job for 25K USD in my home town.

Yea, but you can quickly progress through the ranks and obviously command higher salary. I've heard that demand for Semiconductor physicists and IC designers is saturating in the USA, as more and more Taiwan/Chinese companies develop their own custom products.....they may not be RISC machines, but like co-processor, networking etc stuff.

It's not saturating but maturing. Most of the chip design houses are in US, what they're doing is they selling off their fab units and consolidating their business around design. It's cheaper to manufacture in TSMC than in US.

Pakistan's Logistic Infrastructure is worse in whole region but the Potential is huge because of Closest seaport available to a huge Landmass in the north of the country and its Border Connectivity to Worlds Largest and Second Largest country simultaneously provide Pakistan with distinct Advantage. Pakistan seriously need to work on its Logistic Infrastructures like Sea Ports, Highway(complete Motor Way connection to all Cities) and especially its Railway because Railway is used mostly in Goods Transit Around the World.
