ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Norway signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for construction of three solar power plants to generate a total of 150MW of electricity, said a statement issued on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Norway's Prime Minister Erna Solberg witnessed the signing ceremony of a MoU between Scatec Solar of Norway and Nizam Energy of Pakistan to jointly develop the solar power plants on a build-own-operate basis.

The construction of three solar power plants to generate a total of 150 MW of electricity is expected to start in the first quarter of 2016.

The project would be completed in a year’s time and will be located in Sindh province, with an initial investment of $300 million.

An additional 150 MW is planned to be developed in the second stage, bringing the total investment to nearly $600 million.

Adviser on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz and other members of the Pakistani delegation were also present on the occasion.

Picture used by Dawn saying PM of Norway and Pakistan are signing solar deal isnt correct. Meeting is about women education in Pakistan. I can see NGO lady working in Pakistan sitting next to Norwegian PM.
Typical pathetic journalism :(

Very good if Norway is investing but Pakistanis should also be given same right to invest in Solar power.
Imran Khan as opposition leader should take up this injustice to the parliament, but he will not either he gets his cut or either he's not a well wisher of Pakistanis or idiot number 1.

.
PM should focus on improving bilateral trade between both nations. Norway can be highly lucrative market for Pakistani products as it is somewhat less densed with Pakistani, Indian and Bangladeshi products. Even the Chinese are not as dominant as is the case for rest of Europe and you get true value for your money.

I was about to say that solar power from Norway could be highly expensive but the deal does not looks bad if the total cost is 300 million dollars (and not just the initial cost).

Dawn tends to recycle old pictures. They're damn good at their fact checking, but can't seem to ever use decent pictures.

This is a federal decision on adding to the power grid, they're not interfering with provincial decisions. Besides, I doubt the Sindh government will complain, considering recent events.

You PTI fanboys are loose in the head, I swear. You would have been more happy if this topic was about 20 people standing outside his hotel yelling 'go nawaz go'.

Whether you like him or don't, atleast respect the seat of the PM.

On topic, improving relations with any country is in our best interest. As I understand it, this is the first visit by a Pakistani premiere to Norway in the last decade.

Here is the picture from the signing:

1) It is federal DUTY to add to the power grid should be a priority considering we are loosing business esp textile which really is good and makes a big portion of our income
2) All I said was : It is something federal should have done ages ago....
3) Majaal hai jo sindh speaks a thing against it ...
4) Why is PPP even allowed Sindh after Thar desert incident and now the latest incident.....it is a murdering party and should be banned
