Cybaero
In short: The PN has asked for quotations on Cybaero autonomous VTOLs after successful trials on a Pakistanian frigate in the Arabian sea this April 2008.

Haven't seen this info before. But the company write this today in their fiscal report. It's a Swedish company with offices also in Abu Dhabi, UAE and Stamford, USA.

Swedish language:

"I april genomförde bolaget en demonstrationsflygning från en pakistansk
fregatt i Arabiska havet, efter en inbjudan från pakistanska marinen.
Demonstrationen resulterade i en inbjudan att lämna offert på ett antal
system."

The APID VTOL UAV system is suitable for a large number of applications
such as:

• Surveillance
• Target acquisition
• Mine detection
• Ground troop escort
• Hostile area surveillance
• Electronic warfare
• Anti terrorism operations
• Patrol
• Border and coast surveillance
• Communications relay
• Payload delivery
• Search Missions

Cybaero also sold the United Arab Emirates technology for the UAV in 2005 after the united states refused to sell them predator drones.

Were there not problems with operating this UAV in choppy winds and Wingd velocity of 15 miles and above. I thought that the first test had been a failure. Could someone please confirm

I think year ago its was in testing phase in PN (discuss in forum, last year when arrive for testing). But never heard anything since then. May be it rejected by PN.

Cybaero's APID 60 (or 55??) VTUAV system was tested off the coast of Karachi from a PN Type-21 Frigate in the month of April 2008. The APID 60 crashed near the coast of Karachi after experiencing loss of primary and secondary link 20 minutes into the flight and just 20kms away from the coast while approaching the emergency landing site area which is a PN Marines Detachment area in Keti Bandar. The wreckage was later recovered by the PN Marines from the Keti Bandar Creek area and handed over to the OEM. After the crash of the APID 60 the trials were declared a failure by the PN. Under these circumstances not a single Navy in the world, let alone PN would ever proceed to actually buy a system that has failed basic trials. This 'report' seems to be a deliberate implant to perhaps misinform & misguide the public at large. Naval HQ in Islamabad receives budgetary & technical quotations from ALL suppliers on a regular basis but this does not mean that every quote that they receive for an equipment is actually purchased. No further trials have been carried out of the same system by the PN.

Do a GOOGLE on APID Pakistan and discover for yourself the details of the crash!

so whats the current status of prospective PN's UAVs? Any new comers?

PN wants a VTOL Ship-based Tactical UAV. The only one that fits the bill so far having been tested in March 2008 successfully (without crashing) off a Type 21 frigate PNS Shahjahan is the Schiebel Camcopter S-100. Hopefully, PN should have the S-100 VTOL TUAV inducted this year. You may get more information on the Schiebel website. :pakistan:

thread Re born after three years without any update :hitwall:

Useless piece of crap. Instead of building formidable surface fleet they are wasting time and money on these Toys.

Well the latest news is that VTOL UAV is no longer on priority with the Navy HQ at the moment. They have no funds to buy operational equipment let alone expensive VTOL UAV's! The tenders for VTOL UAV called in November 2010 have not gone past the technical evaluation stage.
