Tahira had applied for Indian citizenship in the office of Deputy Commissioner Gurdaspur on March, 9, 2011. "The Punjab government also recommended my citizenship case to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs but has so far not granted me Indian citizenship and a temporary visa for Pakistan," she said.
She has been residing here since October 28, 2003 and now has three children, two daughters and a son. "I submitted to the government here a certificate renouncing Pakistani nationality in September 2013. But nothing has moved since," she said
