Let us look at Sri Lanka, which is doing so well right now.

They had more deaths in Sri Lanka through the suicide bombings of the Indian sponsored LTTE from 2000 to 2009 than Pakistan has had from 2003-2011:

With a population of only 21 million, Sri Lanka saw more terrorism than what Pakistan did in its worst period from 2003-2011, & Pakistan has almost 9 times the population of Sri Lanka (180 million). Pakistan has only really started seeing real casualties from terrorism since 2003, whereas Sri Lanka has been seeing it for more than 20 years. Also see how there have been 0 casualties in Sri Lanka in 2010 & 2011 (up till now). It is possible for nations to get past this temporary phase of terrorism. Another example of a country ravaged by terrorism in the past is Turkey, through the PKK. Terrorism is a temporary phase, & nations get past it. It won't be any different for Pakistan either.

Pakistan needs its leaders to 'reform themselves', & to look at the right solution for Afghanistan, so that the region can be stable once the US leaves Afghanistan. Hope is not lost for Pakistan in any way, nations go through far worse, but Pakistan lives in a troubled neighborhood, & instead of creating more enemies, needs to have more friends. Same applies to other countries in the region as well. The US will need to do well (which it hasn't done yet) in tackling the safe havens in North Afghanistan which are used by Afghan terrorists to infiltrate inside Pakistan & cause terrorism. All in all, nations go far worse than what Pakistan is going through, but they come out of it, because terrorism is a temporary phase. I believe Pakistan has a very bright future ahead of it once it gets out of this WOT & rectifies its mistakes.

Well it depends on when (and if) we get rid of terrorism. The current mess is too big to see through!

Yep! India sponsored Rajiv Gandhi's assassination too through the LTTE!! And the LTTE managed to kill scores of Indian IPKF soldiers in ambushes in Sri Lanka. In other words India sponsored the killing of its own soldiers by the Indian sponsored LTTE! :cheesy: Strange are the ways of this world, what?! :undecided:

And yes, considering that Pakistan has some the best doctors, IT professionals, Engineers etc, it has great potential to become a leading nation in Asia. But alas! Will the policies of the Establishment (Read Army/ISI) change course for the better? Make peace not war! That should be the bottom line in both Pakistan and India as well.

But as long as the Establishment does not shed its paranoia towards India, which it considers its arch enemy and as long as school text books in Pakistan describe Indians as 'Kafirs' who need to be put to the sword, I do not think peace will come about anytime soon. But we need to round the corner to see the light at the end of the tunnel!

If there's peace, South Asia can become a future economic powerhouse, lifting millions out of poverty, improving the quality of life, improving health care and education and having a say in world affairs. Is this a pipe dream? I'm an optimist and I'm confident it will happen some day. When, is the question!

Cheers!

I believe that pakistanis know whats best for pakistan ... Do not look at others to follow their suit... You are owners of your own destiny, you know your problems the best ..hence its only ou who can solve it... If you think kicking out America is the going to solve it then do it... the question remains are the aspirations of the people and your leaders the same ... more importantly are the aspirations of your people and the army the same?
