ISLAMABAD -- A defense lawyer says a Pakistani court has temporarily barred the extradition of a U.S. citizen of Pakistani origin accused of planning a terrorist attack in New York with help from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group.

Tariq Asad said his client, Talha Haroon, was detained in Pakistan last year. He says the Islamabad High Court on Monday ruled in favor of a petition by the detainee’s father to halt his extradition.

Asad said his client’s father, Haroon Rashid, told the court that his son is innocent and that his life will be in danger if he is extradited to the United States. In his petition, Rashid says President Donald Trump has “biased and prejudiced policy against the Muslims.”

Asad says the next hearing in the case will be held April 11.

Good decision. You can't punish a guy based on just a speculation that he had an intention to do terror attack in America but couldn't get a Visa to do so. Too much bullsh!t.

He is a US citizen. Pakistanis involved in Islamic terrorism in the USA is on the rise. I hope he is not sheltered by Pakistan.

Talha Haroon would be tried in the same judiciary that has blocked Trump's travel ban, not once, but twice. If it was simply about killing him, then it would better to off him in Pakistan.

Let's see how this plays out. What will US do if Pakistan does extradite him.

Judicial and Executive branches are separate under US Constitution.

Would be a shame to see a tweet from Pres. Trump, this time, about Pakistan hiding someone.

He is a US citizen and while he gladly gave up his green passport for a red one, why should Pakistan halt his extradition. He should be send on his way the sooner, the better.

The Court is within its rights to hear his claim before ruling. The stay simply preserves its jurisdiction.
