In a recently shared table from MODP year book 2015/16, it shows procurement plan of at least 5 Ecureuil helicopters.

It is most likely for AS550 Fennec light weight multi-purpose military helicopters. Pakistan already operates 20 Eurocopter Fennec in light attack and reconnaissance role.

There were plans of getting the same choppers for FC last year and it seems that this is the same purchase.

There is another mention of four more helicopters of the same kind in the year book as well.

No but why cant we have our own helicopters. Only now is PAC making a dedicated design dept. which should have been done ages agoo. Even when we had chances and requisite resources the leadership didnt go for it.

Helis are not acquired in great numbers like fighter jets JF17 for instance...as per our requirements of choppers i.e small numbers its more economical to buy them instead of manufacturing our own..

Ur right i completly agree.

But italy has a small requirement. But they are building their own helis. And also SELLING THOSE HELICOPTERS TO EARN MONEY

Actually, that depends. The modern concept of nimble, agile, quick reaction force to spearhead forays into enemy territory revolves around heli borne forces accompanied by fast moving tanks. You need lots of helis for such maneuvers.

Well how many successful deals have me made for JF17(which is made in collaboration)...only with Myanmar i suppose so its not easy to sell products and helicopter industry is already full of Giants like BELL and AUGUSTA along with Russian and Chinese companies not forgetting the Europeans..

Well thats why PAA is looking to acquire more attack helis and it even uses Mushaq for reconnaissance of enemy troops in a battle..but suggesting a manufacturing facility for this purpose I dont think its a great idea..
PEACE!

Well with that reasoning we should abandon every project because it is hard to do x y z.

JF17 is step in the right direction. We need to aim beyond that now and create a new mindset which in turn will give rise to the requisite resources. Just like Turkey.

By the way can this helicopter be only armed by rockets or missiles can be also placed on these like let say Turkish UMTAS ?

Its not difficult to make choppers(maybe) but it surely is difficult to sell them...

There are plans to produce T-129 jointly with Turkey.

Question why cant we build our own???
No infrastructure for that, no RnD done ever till today, required numbers in one particular variant, relatively reliable supply chain etc etc are some of the many reasons.

However i do hope we can start with some in-house assembly and manufacturing for some light to medium weight transport helicopter as that is the category with maximum numbers required. We can always gradually build on that and work out different variants for different roles.

These are known to carry TOW so i am sure ATGM are not a problem! Provided the chopper is armed with some targeting/guiding pod/equipment.

Coz they must have earned already quiet a lot while putting this plant up for production
