Pakistan Development Forum begins on April 25

ISLAMABAD: Multilateral and bilateral donors of Pakistan from all over the world would assemble here from April 25 to 27, to analyze Pakistan’s performance in uplift of social sector, overall economy and governance.

Pakistan Development Forum 2007, which is known as donors forum, would help the government to get feedback from the multilateral and individual donors on economic and social policies of the government of Pakistan to realign such according to best international practices.

A critical review of Pakistan’s performance to be undertaken by the donors in the forum in the areas of alleviation of poverty, balanced economic growth for poor and rich, empowerment of poor especially the women, improvement in governance and social services delivery in remote areas, development priorities and dimensions of the country would help government to improve the weak areas.

Then government would highlight its reforms agenda and targets, which have been achieved till date and future course of action to achieve the remaining goals, especially the Second Generation Reforms.

The challenges faced by the country and economy as overall and Pakistan’s development needs would also be highlighted so that multilateral donors and bilateral donors so that they could align their aid and loan policies according to Pakistan’s requirements.

Some 600 foreign and local delegates are expected to participate in the forum including multilateral donor including World, Bank, Asian Development Bank, International Monetary Fund, Islamic Development Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Multilateral Investment Guaranty Agency (MIGA), International Finance Corporation (IFC), Kuwait Fund for Development are expected to attend the Forum.

Senior representatives from Pakistan’s development partner 70 countries including United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Canada, Switzerland are expected to attend the forum.

Pakistan Development Forum is an annual event hosted by the Economic Affairs Division in coordination with the World Bank. PDF is a unique opportunity for the Government of Pakistan to share with its development partners, its policies, reform agenda and initiatives in areas such as economic growth, poverty alleviation, human resource development, governance and infrastructure development etc.

The 2006 Pakistan Development Forum was held from May 10 to 11 at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz inaugurated the conference. The Pakistan Development Forum is an annual event hosted by the Government of Pakistan to share its development policies, initiatives, achievements, priorities and future plans with its development partners. The conference title for 2006 was ‘Drivers of economic growth unleashing the potential of the private sector’.

Pakistan Development Forum is platform where multilateral as well as bilateral donors along with government of Pakistan review its performance and up-grade their knowledge to assist its efforts to achieve its development goals. Pakistan Development Forum was previously was known as Aid to Pakistan Consortium based at Paris, France.

what benefit will it bring to pakistan...apart from the donors will priase the government policies.
