• report, Pakistan will deploy Chinese CH-4 drones, the Chinese version of the American MQ-9 Reaper, along the Line of Control (LOC) to thwart any infiltration from the Eastern border.
  
  The report has rung alarm bells in India as Pakistan is procuring CH-4 drones in bulk from China.
  
  It adds that Pakistan recently sent a 10 member team led by Brigadier Zafar Iqbal to China to finalize the minor details and initiate the procurement procedure from Aerospace Long-March International Trade Company (ALIT).
  
  Brigadier Iqbal had previously visited China in December last year to oversee the factory acceptance test of CH-4 drones.
  
  
  In 2018, Pakistan had also acquired 48 Wing Loong-II drones from China to consolidate its defensive capabilities.
  
  A bit about CH-4
  There are 2 versions of CH-4 drones; CH-4A and CH-4B.
  
  A CH-4 drone can carry 6 weapons and has a payload capacity of 345Kgs. It can fire air-to-ground missiles from a height of 16,000 feet.

ch4 heavy fuel aircraft piston engine 100 horse power

Very efficient on fuel. Usually piston engine service ceiling is lower than Turboprop because piston engine is optimized for Mid latitude and Low latitud. But ch4 use China heavy fuel turbocharge aircraft piston engine, which can reach 9000 m as well.

ch4 fly slower than winlong 2. ch4 balance fuel efficiency, endurance, cruise speed, cost and maintenance KPIs.

ch4 is more suitable for terrain. It need UAV long endurance and slower speed to track and monitor targets.

These things have been under trials and testing inside pakistan since 2018 i hope they got the improvements they asked for back in nov 2018.

If true, Final confirmation will probably only come out at this years Zhuhai Air show in November.

I hope the add the CM-501G (70km) or at least the lighter CM-501GA (40km) and a Chinese version of the SPEAR-EW to the weapons this thing can carry so it can deal with Indian integrated battle groups and air defense batteries respectively.

CH-4 apparently going out of favor, Arab's probably were unable to maintain them as according to this article number of active export units decreasing. Being piston engine driven these would be maintenance heavy.

China has better drones and for LOC these would be easy to shoot down by India. For western front these would be great but for eastern front Pakistan needs to look at low observable UCAVs/Satellites. Can also go really small and discrete as well launch recover from forward bunkers.

In Iraq at least, the CH-4 is not unique in suffering maintenance woes.

Alongside the Chinese-made CH-4s, Iraq also acquired 10 smaller ScanEagle drones from U.S. manufacturer Insitu.

But according to inspector-general, the ScanEagles flew just two sorties between March and June 2019 owing to a "combination of Iraqi training in the United States, a lapse in maintenance contracts and problems with signal interference.”--for Iraq , US also
