The Pakistan Railways is the most important transport institution in the country

The first railway line in Pakistan was built in Karachi in the 1860s. Over the next century it was gradually expanded almost one thousand miles north to the Afghan border areas in the North-West Frontier province (NWFP). To a large extent, the railway line followed the Indus River up north.

[Eid Prayers Badshahi Masjid]

View attachment 4ad2752588df124c5cec4c801549c6f4.jpg

The Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb built the Badshahi Masjid in the 17th centuryThe Badshahi Mosque is one of the largest mosques in the world. It can accommodate more than 55,000 people, although over 100,000 are usually found in the mosque and surrounding garden area today during Eid prayers. This photograph was likely taken during the 1930s. In the early 1940s, the main minarets were restored at the behest of Punjab's Chief Minister Sir Sikander Hayat Khan. Further work has restored the mosque to much of its former glory.

Today a sound-and-light show illuminates the walls of the mosque, the adjacent Lahore Fort and Maharajah Ranjit Singh's tomb, offering a spectacle from nearby rooftop restaurants that has become a big tourist attraction.

Miss Buchwa Jan of Karachi[1910]

View attachment 5575cd3dbf1e0cc92f648314c75e5984.jpg

A still unknown early Karachi artiste

An early singer and recording artist, Buchwa Jan must have been one of the leading singers or dancers in Karachi to have warranted a postcard. Note the implied sophistication to have her leaf through an album of cabinet cards (of British officials), which suggests that although the postcard may date to roughly 1910, the photograph was possibly taken even earlier.

karachi, Eduljee Dinshaw Charity Hospital[1905]

View attachment 7af1ee9dbd754f56fa20acecf15c80b1.jpg

This hospital was built in the memory of Parsi trader Eduljee DinshawThe Parsis dominated the business community of Karachi for a long time. Parsis started major property, shipping, hotel and beverage businesses. Many had links or were related to the Bombay Parsi families which played a similarly important role in the birth of India's largest urban business center.

The late Eduljee Dinshaw was a trader who owned a huge portion of land in Karachi. The Eduljee Dinshaw Dispensary was opened to public in 1882. It still stands, and was one of many charitable donations the family made to the civic well being of Karachi. Indeed, despite its small size relative to Karachi's population today, the Parsi community still plays a major role in the city's commercial life.

Today called Zaibunnisa Street, it is still the commercial heart of the city

Elphinstone Street was named after Monstuart Elphinstone (1779-1859), a Scot who played an important role in western India during the first part of the 19th century. He was the first British ambassador to Afghanistan, and helped defeat the Peshwas in Maharashtra, both before 1820. He served as Governor of Bombay Presidency - of which Karachi was a part until the 1930s. Elphinstone College in Mumbai was also named after him.

Napier Barracks was built for British soldiers in 1847, soon after what is now Sindh province was taken over by the British under General Charles Napier in 1843. Today government offices are housed in these structures. This is one of the most popular views of early Karachi, sent off no doubt by the many soldiers who resided here during their service terms in India.

Or you can also say "Current Pakistan before 1947".
In any case, I don't feel it's matter of such cynicism
