Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that Pakistan wants a concerted action by the Muslim world for formulation of a comprehensive strategy to counter terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

He was addressing Islamabad-based Muslim diplomats at an Iftar dinner hosted by him in their honour at the Prime Minister's House in Islamabad.

The Prime Minister said it is also vital to address the root causes of terrorism.

"These include injustice, sense of helplessness and economic and political deprivations".

"As the world has become a global village, we have to propagate the true message of Islam which stands for universal peace and brotherhood".

The Prime Minister regretted that faith has come under increasing attacks in the Western world resulting in recent incidents of Islamophobia.

"This is mainly due to a handful of misguided people who have by their interpretation of Islam made the religion target of our detractors".

He said terrorism has no faith and hence there is need to ensure that the fight against terrorism does not turn into a clash between the West and Islam.

Gilani said Pakistan has been hit hard by the menace of terrorism and the country is playing an active role in the international campaign against terrorism.

"We are fighting this evil as we believe that this in the interest of Pakistan. We remain undeterred in our resolve to root out terrorism from our society".

The Prime Minister unequivocally said that Pakistan will not allow its territory to be used by terrorists and will not be daunted by threats of terrorism.

The Prime Minister declared that Pakistan will always continue to extend unequivocal and un-wavering support to the Palestinian cause.

Pakistan wants total withdrawal of Israeli forces from the occupied Arab territories including al-Quds, restoration of inalienable rights of Palestinian people and establishment of an independent homeland with Al-Quds as its capital. --IRNA

Islamabad, Sept 26 : The Muslim world should formulate a comprehensive strategy to counter terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, said Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani here last evening.

He said that terrorism had no faith and that laid stress on the need to ensure that the fight against terrorism did not turn into a clash between the West and the world of Islam.

“We also believe that it is vital to address the root causes of terrorism such as injustice, desperation, sense of humiliation and helplessness, economic and political deprivations in order to eradicate this evil completely. We also reject the canard of the so-called Islamic terrorism, as we firmly believe that terrorism has no faith,” The News quoted Gilani as saying at an Iftar dinner hosted for the envoys of Islamic countries at his official residence.

He said Pakistan attached paramount importance to its relations with the Islamic world, which, he added, were the “cornerstone of its foreign policy”.

Islam has come under increasing attacks in the recent past in the Western world, resulting in rising incidents of Islamophobia, he said and added: “This is mainly due to a handful of our misguided believers who, by their wrong interpretation of Islam, have made our religion the target of our detractors.” (ANI)

It's unfortunatem but true his character, Mr. Zardari has squandered this opportunity to speak truthfully abou this important issue.

Mr. Zardari asserts that "the root causes of terrorism such as injustice, desperation, sense of humiliation and helplessness, economic and political deprivations" - these exacerbate the difficulty in dealing with terrorism, they are, however; not the root causes of what is called "Islamic terrorism" or to increasing numbers of people, terrorism.

The root cause is known to all, it is the radical ideology of Takfir and it's inspirational source, Salaf and Wahabism - instead of telling the truth and awakening apathetic populations, Mr. Zardari feeds the bogus and diversionary notion that poverty is to blame for terrorism.

These kinds of diversionary speech, these misrepresentations give a safe exit to those who are in denial and those who wish to escape responsiblity and in doing so, Mr. zardari does a great disservice to Islam, whose roots if not established in ethics and morality, becomes just one more ideology.
