Pakistan army blocks entry of Afghan militants
June 30 2011

The Pakistan Army barred the entry of militants from Afghanistan on Thursday as it gained control of areas near the Pak-Afghan border after the three-day operation in Mohmand Agency.

The clashes that took place during the operation between the security forces and the militants left around 40 militants dead, said sources.

Brigadier Aftab Ahmad told AFP by telephone that his forces had destroyed 17 militant hideouts in the Baizai region under his command in the lawless tribal area of Mohmand.

“Militants were regularly attacking our posts on the Afghanistan border at Shonkari and Mithai and also targeting goods vehicles going to Afghanistan,” he said.

“An operation was launched three days ago with the support of army aviation aircraft, helicopters and fighter jets. We killed at least 40 militants,” Ahmad said.

Maqsood Hussain, a government official in Baizai, confirmed the raids and casualties, but it was not immediately clear how the Pakistani officials reached the body count of 40.

Also, one soldier was killed and several others were injured in a land mine explosion near the Pak-Afghan border during the operation.

Good Job Pak Army!!
Time to Stand Firmly Against Afghani Terrorists who attack us under NATO & ISAF’s Nose.

Just goes to show that the ANA & the NATO Forces are giving the Afghan terrorists a free ride to infiltrate into Pakistan. Well done Pakistan Army! Send them where they came from, so they can get a dose of their own medicine.

NATO blames Haqqani for attack on Afghan hotel - Yahoo! News

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — The U.S.-led coalition on Thursday blamed an al-Qaida affiliated network working jointly with Taliban fighters for a deadly attack on a luxury hotel in Kabul — an assault that raised doubts about the ability of Afghan forces to handle security as foreign troops withdraw.

The coalition also reported that a leader with the Haqqani network suspected of having provided assistance, including weapons, fighters and training, to the gunmen who attacked the Inter-Continental hotel was killed Wednesday night in a precision airstrike. Ismail Jan, the deputy to the senior Haqqani commander inside Afghanistan, and other Haqqani fighters died in the airstrike in Gardez, the provincial capital of Paktia province, the coalition said.

Say what again bilalhaider?

Zabiullah Mujhaid has claimed the responsibility for carrying out the attack before the US accused the Haqqani Network. Zabiullah Mujhaid is not the spokesperson of Haqqani Network, he is the spokesman for the Taliban. You also forgot to mention that the Deputy Director ISI Nawab Patudi, Foreign Secretary Salman Basheer and other high ranking Pakistani officials were present in the hotel at the time of attack.

Hey Raptor. Thats a nice news but I have made a 'centeral thread for it'. Please post such new there. Lets maintain a diary :)

It's called staying on message - don't let the facts cloud your message - The Message is Haqqanis and Pakistan and so it will remain, regardless of facts.

KHYBER AGENCY - Three new security checkposts have been established near the Pak-Afghan border in Loy Shelman and Sheen Pokh areas on the bank of River Kabul.
Sheen Pokh is a very far-flung area of Landikotal bordering Afghanistan in the east and Mohmand Agency in the north, about 40 Km away from Landikotal bazaar in the north.
Militants, in the past, have been using River Kabul to cross and enter Sheen Pokh area for carrying out terrorists activities. This step has also been taken to check the possible cross-border penetration of the miscreants via ghost routes from across the border in Afghanistan, APA Landikotal Iqbal Khattak said.
The security forces and the political administration’s Khasadar Force will jointly perform duties at these newly-set up checkpoints in the far flung Sheen Pokh area of Loy Shelman in Landikotal, APA maintained. The checkposts have been set up with an aim to ensure peace in the region internally and externally, APA Landikotal elaborated. He said the steps for erecting security posts have been taken after noticing infiltration of terrorists from across the border in Upper Dir and Bajaur Agency where terrorists sabotaged peaceful environment.
Shelmani and Sheen Pokh tribes’ cooperation with administration is also appreciable in this respect, administration officer added. Landikotal sub-division will be made again an abode of peace and tranquillity, he vowed adding, the remaining few small pockets of the banned Lashker-e-Islam in the far flung Zakha Khel region would be shortly cleared to establish writ of the govt. Administration officer said that development schemes would be started in the Landikotal sub-division of Khyber Agency to satisfy the tribesmen that the government was resolute to bring these backward areas at par with the developed areas of the country. “I am a servant of the people that is why it is my responsibility to serve them and resolve their long-standing problems,” APA Khattak promised.
The militants could no more disturb the law and order situation in Landikotal due to the newly-established security posts jointly patrolled by security forces and Khasadar Force to motivate the tribesmen to play their positive role for peace and development in their respective areas, APA Landikotal Khattak concluded.

This is what call responsible armed force but not like those across border who deliberately remove post to let militants go free and attack Pakistani posts.

Hi,

Where is this soldiers flack jacket----at least steel plates front and back----.

Sir, this is an old picture taken at some IDP camp a few months back. The trucks behind the soldier were there for transportation of the IDPs to their respective homes, i am not sure but i believe it was during the return of the IDPs of Bajaur Agency, when this pic was taken.

Flak jackets are worn where there is high risk of something to happen, as this was an IDP camp in the settled area and security risk was low, thus no jacket worn.

In Peshawar, all the men in uniform on guard duties be it on check points or the QRF patrolling, they wear the flak jackets with the steel plates, but i see many removing their back end steel plates, due to their weight. A fully loaded jacket weighs somewhere around 13-15KG.
