ISLAMABAD: The two-way trade between Pakistan and the United States stands at $5 billion annually and, as a matter of fact, Pakistan exports more products to the US than any other country in the world.
Richard E Hoagland, Charge d affaires at the US Embassy, said this in a letter on Wednesday. He said, We consistently rank among the top sources of foreign investment to Pakistan as we want to see more because we believe that investment creates new jobs in Pakistan and expands the economy.
We have deeper commercial and trade ties, and American and Pakistani entrepreneurs are meeting and sharing expertise and ideas, Mr Hoagland said.
He said that over the years, the United States had maintained substantial civilian assistance programmes in Pakistan. We want you to know more about these programmes because we are proud of our efforts so far and are committed to helping Pakistan achieve a brighter future as we share common goals because we know that a prosperous Pakistan is also good for the United States.
I am pleased to introduce a new electronic outreach service that will provide the people of Pakistan with the latest developments in US-Pakistan cooperation. (Our) first bulletin focuses on our cooperation in energy and the efforts that are being made in this vital sector. Every day, the United States and Pakistan are working together to alleviate Pakistans energy crisis. The United States funds large-scale energy projects that will provide electricity to an estimated two million households by 2013, US envoy maintained.
He said that since the birth of Pakistan, the United States had been a committed partner of the nation as today the relationship had matured and expanded in many ways. He said, Our people have developed a deeper appreciation for one another and become more familiar through cultural and educational exchanges. The scientists from both of our countries are collaborating on research and visiting each others institutions. We work side by side to improve health and education in Pakistan. We work together to develop Pakistans energy resources to power homes and businesses.
