Pak joins global market roster by observing 2 holidays

ISLAMABAD (APP) - By two holidays a week and market closure timings across country by 8pm, Pakistan has joined the global market roster which may greatly help the local business grow manifold and enormous growth in the country’s exports.
Businessmen and experts opine that the new roster is inline with the international trends and would help greatly in conservation of energy. They also want the trading community to understand the significance of the steps taken by the government to meet the growing energy needs while this decision was also according to the int'l business trends.

Almost all of the German outlets remain open until 8pm six days a week. The stores in the US generally open between 9am and 10am, and close at 8pm weeknights, 7pm (19:00) Saturdays, and 5pm (17:00) on Sundays. Stores in the UK close at 7pm or 8pm on weeknights, some earlier on Saturday. The stores in England and Wales, like most other supermarkets, now open on Sundays between 1000 and 1600 hours, while stores in Scotland, where Sunday trading laws are unregulated, open at times only slightly different from weekdays.
The stores in Australia generally open from 0900 to 1900 hours weekdays and open both on Saturday and Sunday until 1700/1800 hours.

In Australia, Aldi was the first supermarket to routinely apply unit price and is the only supermarket to label its products as suitable for vegetarians. In Ireland stores open between 0900 to 2000 hours Monday to Wednesday, 0900 to 2100 hours Thursday and Friday, 0900 to 1900 hours Saturday and 1100 to 1900 hours on Sunday. Chaudhry Zaheer Ahmad, President, Action Committee for All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetables Merchants Association, said the government’s initiative for energy conservation was a step in the right direction and it would link Pakistani markets with the global market trends.

“It would greatly help Pakistani entrepreneurs, especially, the trading community would benefit from it a lot. It would also boost the fruit exports as priorly our fruits used to get rotten as Pakistani schedules did not match the international markets and due to long stays at ships, the fruit got spoiled,” he added.
Furthermore, he said the two-day holidays would enable the Pakistani traders match the international market timings while this would also help the energy sector a great deal as hundreds of saved megawatts would be used for the business community boost its exports,” he added
