Pak govt seeks court ban on AQ Khan's free movement

LAHORE: The Pakistani government today asked a court to bar disgraced nuclear scientist AQ Khan from moving around freely, meeting people and giving interviews to the media in the interest of national security.

Senior lawyer Ahmer Bilal Soofi filed a petition in this regard on behalf of the government in the Lahore High Court.

Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry issued a notice seeking Khan's response to the petition at the next hearing scheduled for January 25.

"Mr Khan should be prevented from giving interviews, meeting people and moving around without security clearance," the petition said. It sought an immediate ban on Khan's interaction with the media.

Khan was placed under house arrest in early 2004 after he confessed to running a nuclear proliferation network on state-run television.

Following a secret understanding between Khan and the government last year, a court eased some of the restrictions imposed on him. However, Khan has filed several petitions seeking further easing of restrictions on his movement.

Recent revelations made by the Western media on the basis of a letter written by Khan to a journalist have caused embarrassment to the Pakistan government, which insists that the scientist's case is a "closed chapter".

The petition filed by the government today asked the court to immediately permit it to investigate claims made in media reports that Khan was in communication with journalist-turned-researcher Simon Henderson.

Khan "should either deny or admit the claims made by Washington Post that he has been providing information to Simon Henderson, who was the source of these articles," the petition said.

"This matter being of utmost importance and relating to the national security and defence of Pakistan deserves to be investigated thoroughly," the petition said.

ISLAMABAD: Reaffirming his strong stance that the nuclear assets of Pakistan are absolutely in safe and secure hands, nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan on Wednesday stressed that he must not be blamed adding all allegations against him are fabricated.


Stop putting allegation on me adding past government blamed me and now the incumbents too are doing the same tactics, Nuclear Scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan expressed these views while talking to a Private TV on Wednesday.
Nuclear Scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan again made it clear that an interview published in a US newspaper involving him is based on pack of lies and are false and fabricated.

The foreign media must not hatch conspiracies against me adding he has written to the court that he has not given any interview and court has accepted it thick and thin, Qadeer emphasized.

The democratic government must remove the stain on him given by the previous regime as he was hoping for more from the incumbents but I guess they too are playing in the hands of the past government, he stressed.
No foreign agency investigated from me, he pointed.

Nuclear Scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan further added that undoubtedly our nukes are safe and sound thus no danger to them.

I hope I will be able to present a good overview about your query.

First, In the age of a tyrant and dictator, the Great Khan, took all the responsibility to himself devoid of the fact known to all that if there had been any fusion transportation it could not have done without the support of Military (If any). He in a very recent interview to Express News program FrontLine with Kamran Shahid (I hope some of my video experts friends of this forum may upload that program) also said that he was given threat of life and military court trial a similar to Bhutto.

Secondly, if you have known the decisions of Lahore High Court in which the court with respect and honour, considering him to be a hero of nation, disallowed any ban on Dr. A Q Khan's movements.

Thirdly, to talk of the common man, Out of 100, 95 think him to be the hero and he really is one.

Most recent interview reveals how free and open to talk he is, and how the views of Dr. A Q are being taken by the nation.
