Pakistan’s imports to Malaysia are growing steadily and are expected to cross $280 million by the end of this year on the back of growing demand for its food products, including rice, fruits and vegetables in the Malaysian market. Currently bilateral trade between Pakistan and Malaysia has gone up by 13 percent to hit $2.8 billion in 2012, while Pakistan’s exports to Malaysia have also increased by 70 percent to achieve $253 million in 2012, said Masood Khalid outgoing Pakistan High Commissioner of Pakistan to Malaysia at Malaysia-Pakistani Business Council (MPBC) in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.

Council’s office-bearers including its Chairman Datuk Mohamad Salim Fateh Din were present. Masood Khalid praised the cooperative efforts championed by Mohamad Salim and the MPBC in furthering business collaboration between both countries. He offered his opinion on how both countries could achieve more symmetrical trade relations and pointed out other aspects of bilateral relations, which could be further developed, such as education and culture. Masood’s next posting will be in Beijing as Pakistan’s Ambassador to China.

Pakistan has a huge trade deficit with malaysia. Pakistan should stop importing 1.5 Billion USD of vegetable edible oil from Malaysia and grow its on soya beans to make that oil. Pakistan is an agricultural country with much larger land than Malaysia and we should not be importing edible oil from anywhere. Instead , we should produce so much that we Export edible oil to the World.
If we are Exporting 250 Million usd to Malaysia and and total trade is 2.8 Billion USD, then the Trade deficit stands at 2.5 Billion USD with Malaysia. That is unacceptable.
