KARACHI: The Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) has received an overwhelming response from the exhibitors and about 100 percent stalls have already been booked for Made In Pakistan Expo 2014 being held in Mumbai, India.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, PRGMEA Chairman Arshad Aziz said that if all goes well and the PRGMEA event is held in a big way, it may fetch at least $100 million export orders.
Former PRGMEA chairman Ejaz Khokhar, Shaikh M Shafiq and joint organiser Evecon’s Director Mir Nasir Abbas were also present on the occasion. He said that Pakistani garments, especially ladieswear, were in great demand in India and the long-term business deals among the two countries would flourish the bilateral trade, while Pakistan’s value-added sector could be given a big boost.
While spelling out details, Aziz said that Made In Pakistan Expo which would be held in Mumbai, India from April 3-7, 2014 in order to promote Pakistan’s garments and clothing in the neighbouring country had been duly endorsed by the ministries of commerce and textile industry.
He said that PRGMEA had arranged B2C and B2B meetings between the Pakistani exhibitors and manufacturers with Indian buyers, while trade delegation would also visit India on the occasion so that Pakistan exhibitors could avail maximum benefit from the event.
He said that beside readymade garments, fashion clothing, and home textiles, handicrafts, marble items, food items and other goods would also be displayed in the event.
He said that there is some problem being faced in obtaining Indian visa but majority of the exhibitors were getting visa. He said that PRGMEA had asked the Indian government to reduce duty tariff on Pakistan’s garments and remove non-tariff barriers in general imposed by Indian government on Pakistan’s exports.
He said that Pakistani value-added sector would get this regional market in real term when Indian government remove all hurdles on Pakistan’s exports. He told the media that PRGMEA had acquired 25,000 square feet space in World Trade Centre in Mumbai and it was expected that over 45 stalls would be booked in next couple of days.
