Seems to be a correction of the Mirage of probe installation attempt on JF17 by PAC. this will likely be the probe for future Pakistani IFR requirement, and being Chinese have like to be have Russian origin, hence seamless integration with IL78.

Could the PAF acquire 1 or 2 A330 MRTTs in the next 3 to 5 years?

At $250 million USD a unit, there is no doubt that these are very expensive platforms. However, they are also very capable. Besides being able to engage in hose/drogue (JF-17 et. al) and boom-type refuelling (F-16), they can be configured for various special mission roles, among them disaster-relief, basic cargo, and even personnel transport (300+).

Given that the F-16 fleet is being expanded (albeit incrementally), would it be a wise decision to begin acquiring A330 MRTTs? Not only can these aircraft provide IFR to the F-16s, but they can also serve the JF-17 and any other hose/drogue-based aircraft, including transports, AEW&C and other ISR systems.

Moreover, a brand-new A330 MRTT could serve the PAF for many decades. In the long-term, the PAF could simply need around 3 A330 MRTTs to support its operations, and these could be acquired on an incremental basis, perhaps every 3-5 years.

That would be a bad bad choice----it would be better to spend the $500 million on around 15 JH7B's---with aesa and BUDDY refuelling capabilities---fire control radars ability to launch Pl12---PL15---PL9---Pl10 ,missiles and all the smart bombs etc---.

In the pakistani arena---the refuellers themselves are sitting ducks.---The JH7B as a refueller---BVR missiles and jammers can provide a lots of security to the aircraft refuelling and itself---.

Not part of plans, and not cleared from Europe for transfer. With the IL78 still serviceable, a new type of IFR aircraft will not be introduced.
 
IMHO buddy refuelling probe is the answer to the F-16 A2A refuelling option. Getting another dedicated MRTT should be avoided.
 
All news n pics n other media hv dried up after IFR prob fitted pictures of JFT appeared on the net ..any info or news on wot happening with those who got fitted with IFR ...... any refueling video ??
 
This thread has been started since 2009 but i have not seen the refueling capability in any one JF17 B1 or B2 near its cockpit.

The reason may not be the aircraft, but the issues with refueller aircraft and UPAZ pods.
