Thanks for bringing up in notice. Also thanks for making it an internattional issue (by posting it in World Affairs).

Yes these malpractices are very prevelant in India and should be eradicated./. More such incidents should be brought to limelight so that some positive action can be taken against them.

I hope some Human Right organization picks up the story and act upon it.

It may help to prevent such incidents in Future and make India a better place.

it's not a everyday practice in India unlike Pakistan

Everyday? Our society is at war with those you speak .. Last I heard 1500 farmers commited mass suicide just a couple of weeks back. You canot go to war with something like that. Pointing fingers and saying its an everyday practice does not solve these barbaric issues.. Like someone said lets focus on the good and try to simply discuss the policies that can never be enforced by us forum goers in a civil way

How come? Just compare the number of threads started out by Indians over the mess in Pakistan and happily pointing out ills to that of raised by us and you will find the difference.

no offence meant, sir.......but one must understand that this things are practiced only by the tribals.....there is little a govt can do to change this beliefs.......yes things have bettered due to the inputs of people like Raja rammohan rai and many others,and with passage of time will continue to improve..........btw just the other day i posted in a thread which heavily insulted 'indian dharma' for a temple stampede!!! I read most of the posts that interest me and have no problem in people posting anti pakistani sentiments and/or propaganda. Some of it is accurate some comes under fuzzy logic.. Unfortunately for our history emotions run high as always.. but knowing is half the battle. I do not include myself in those you speak off, there are people that enjoy your posts as well.

Yes Sir. This menace is getting bigger and should be highlighted in media so that such practices are curbed.

I would suggest that we all launch an online signature campeign and send the same to arious Human rights organizations and Govt. of Orissa as well.

What do you say for that proposal? If most memberd agree we can request to the mods for same.

Sir these problems are global in nature and Primary cause is Global Warming and changing enviornmental conditions. This is in resemblance with Australian scenario(What will global warming look like? Scientists point to Australia - Los Angeles Times), which is again Agriculture driven. Chattisgarh, the problem ws caused by low water levels and resulting bad crops.
Australia, even when being a developed nation is struggling to prevent the sucides(1 every 3 days). Everyone should do their bit to make the world a better place.

Hmmm... we have a long way to go before we call ourselves a completely sane society.

Well, the culprit is caught and will be punished. Is this enough? No.
There definitely will be some tantrik or somebody who would have suggested the culprit to do so. We must catch the instigator and give him the maximum punishment. This will be the first step for us in trying to curb such acts. I am not sure if we have enough laws to gve such a punishment to such Tantriks.

Even in the earlier case of a father raping his own daughter, a tantrik was the real instigator.

The second step would be to impart education to people. As long as the uneducated exists, they will continue to be gullible, and such incidents will happen.

Farmer suicide is a problem for sure, and the party to blame for the same is politicians.

What farmers get for their produce is tuppence compared to its market price.

The formers also lack insurance coverage, depend completely on rain, subcidies will not reach them etc., and hence will not recover even if one crop fails. They cannot repay loans, and choose to end their lives. Pathetic.

The real money makers are the middle men, and these people are influencial business men forming syndicates and influencing the politicians in return for money.

If the government has the will, this bane is not that difficult to reduce.

BTW, the suicide was not a mass suicide and happened over a period of time. Please treat this as a technical correction only, and not as an effort to downplay the incident.

You might be right .. I am sure people would have treated it more alarmingly if 1500 got together and committed suicide. I am just disgusted at most of the stories posted on this forum. True sense of how low the human life is really worth. We have raped this earth and populated it like there was no tomorrow. If it is this difficult to live at the moment, think what our grand children will face .. the adversities will surely depopulate this planet. God save us all.

Thanks for caring so much about us. I never doubted that there would be ulterier motives to this post. I acknowledge your firm grip of ground realities in India. I am sure there are quite a few things we need to improve upon and no Indian ever has a moral right to point any fingers towards moderate, gentle and decent Pakistan, instead we should try and emulate your feats.

Hope one day we will be able to remove "Extremism, barbarism and human indecency" from their minds. Maybe we are the most dangerous place on earth at this point of time as well. Thanks for a really insightful and truely moving post.
