PMIK may be smart and genius, and Murrikans may be dumb, but trying to hold the world hostage to threat of terrorism emanating from Afghanistan is a strategy whose time has come and gone. Pakistan needs to move on as well.

The enemies are only too glad to help destroy Pakistan's images wherever possible, but clearly Pakistan has a problem between managing its policies and its global perceptions thereof, and no evidence to suggest any coherent pans to deal with the dilemma.

I do think that Pakistan should ease off on Afghan Taliban representation. they are savvy enough to negotiate, after all they dealt with Americans directly in UAE and Qatar for years.

Just because its been done before does not make it any less true. The warning is valid. That chaos and instability in Afghanistan could spill over into other countries, including those not sharing a border with it, should be pretty obvious.

IK's speeches and opinion pieces will not influence the "international community's" response. That only happens through diplomacy, behind closed doors.

What IK has been doing is making Pakistan's position clear to pre-empt blame and pressure. He did the same with the "absolutely not" comment. He may have not have received an official request for bases. But he pre-empted any pressure by stating his position in advance.

Words matter. But being right is only the start to making Pakistan's case as he sees it, and it is impossible to get across by using wrong wording, or crying wolf once too many times. I can appreciate where PMIK is coming from, but he is failing utterly in pre-empting any blame. As usual, he is a day late and a dollar short, and clueless as to the way forward, to boot.

(His "absolutely not" comment was him falling for a very predictable trap laid by a two-bit journalist, being the straightforward man that he is, obviously. But he served Pakistan poorly in the diplomatic sense by blurting out his mind as he did, given that no such request was made in the first place, making the question an easily avoided hypothetical one. He should know better by now, but he clearly does not, sadly.)
