The pronounced wobbling of a 71-storey skyscraper in the southeastern Chinese city of Shenzhen that caused a panicked stampede in the streets below in May was caused by wind hitting the tower’s masts, a state-convened group of experts has concluded.

‘Vortex induced resonance’ originating from the ‘aged’ masts made the building shake, but left it secure and stable, the experts said, reports Global Times.

The 21-year-old SEG Plaza tower, with a roof height of 292m, started wobbling at around 1.50pm local time on 18 May, prompting its evacuation and panic among shoppers in the streets below.
Data showed that the tower had resonated 21 times between 18-20 May.

The experts recommended dismantling the old masts and installing new ones in a different arrangement, said Global Times.

The tower has been sealed off since the incident.

As well as offices, the building housed a vast, multi-level consumer electronics market.

The U.S. "superpower" is now taking a page out of India's playbook and building slum housing.

But if you don't build the slum housing, you get massive homeless encampments filled with drug addicts, dangerous weirdos, rats, and garbage located right next to your luxury condo. The residents of this luxury apartment building have to deal with stolen packages, constant urination around their building, and threats of violence on a daily basis lol.

Meanwhile, the third world country of China has been building high-rise apartment buildings like this across the entire country for the past 20+ years.

The Chinese population, after having to endure over a century of poverty, finally has access to decent housing and China has one of the highest home ownership rates in the world. But the Western media will never tell you about the good stuff. Instead, they talk about "ghost cities" and continue to predict and warn of a housing collapse that never seems to happen lol.

The problem had been identified and resolved. After changing two tall poles at the roof top, problem solved.

The building was built in late 1980s or early 1990s, designed by a Hong Kong architect company, propably by a team headed by foreigner. It was built before the present building safety laws n guidelines were gazetted.

There used to be a public observation deck there for some time. Used to be the most breathtaking view in the town after Wutong mountain on a nice weather day.

If this is China's poorest province, I'd like to know what rich looks like. I keep telling people to ignore per capita GDP when it comes to China. Instead, look at what China is actually building. So did any buildings wobble in China's poorest province? Did the Western media cover it? Will the Western media show any of these aerial drone shots on CNN or BBC or whatever?
