im not even trying to be negative here. The truth is, the land has a very huge potential for tourism. But failed government policies and general explosive conditions in Pakistan make it very difficult.

India is a mess. But we still get tourists in droves. I hope you get my point.

An examination of the motivation for travel in 2005 shows that returning Pakistanis and others visiting Friends and Relative account for more than half of all foreign arrivals at 56%. Business visits remain strong at 21%, while holiday/ vacation visits are limited to only 14.7% of all arrivals.

Considering the security situation and negative travel advisories, that's not doing too badly. Imagine how much better it can be once the mess is cleaned up.

15% of a million - 150,000 - is a MUCH more plausible figure, and likely close to the actual number of tourists.

I agree with you that the abysmal security situation is holding these figures down, and tourism has a lot of growth potential if that can be fixed. Pakistan can be a great tourist destination for sure.

Why so much pessimism from Pakistani's? Or are they really Indian false flagers? I understand the figure might be exaggerated and foreigners don't generally like to travel to Pakistan but all that is changing. At least in the Textiles sector where Europeans and Americans are visiting in much bigger numbers now.
