MIRANSHAH: At least one person was killed and 20 others were wounded on Wednesday when the Pakistani army and Taliban militants clashed in Miranshah, an official said.

“Twenty people were injured and one was killed during the clash between the army and militants,” Dr Niaz Ahmed, from the main Miranshah hospital, told AFP.

The violence began just before sunset when militants started firing at army troops during which a local grocery trader was killed in the cross-fire, said an AFP journalist who lives in the area.

The 20 injured were all civilians, including two girls who were hit by shrapnel after a mortar shell landed inside their house.

Both sides continued firing for two hours and the clash ended only after civilians urged a ceasefire, using loudspeakers from nearby mosques, so that they could take the injured to hospital.

Many houses and businesses were also damaged due to the use of heavy weapons, reported the AFP correspondent.

"20 civilians injured by mortor shell landed in their house"...Whenever clash takes place between army and talibans in populated areas , the collateral damage is inflicted by Pak army as they use very heavy weaponry.

Every day we hear about militant attacks, every day. Not one day passes when these animals don't attack or try to harm one of us Pakistanis. We can make a solid policy against terrorism but this does not seem to be on the top of the list of politicians. Instead all they seem to be content with is with the framing of innocent civilians on false charges of terrorism.

I don't understand why we can't launch one targetted operation and finish off the militants once and for all. Atleast 600-800 people have disappeared in Pakistan. Agreed most are terrorists but 100 are not terrorists and are innocents entrapped by being at the wrong place at the wrong time. These people are civilians caught up and they include cases like Aafia. I request the government to please ensure justice and target the right people.
