What's new

On graduate study outside India.

Does work experience count as well ? I mean if it is in related fields, say for example, ISRO, DRDO etc....

It would, but not as much as for Business Schools. Most Top Engineering schools are number *hores.

not only gre score they ask for overall good profile- projects, seminars, college recommendation contribution in any scientific paper ,extra curricullar etc

Technical paper ? Doesn't that come during graduate study ? My intent is to apply for a graduate course...not a p.hd......

These are the list of things required
1. GRE score (above 325, with >165 in quant)
2. TOEFL iBT (above 100)
3. 3 Very good recommendation letter and statement of purpose.
4. Research publications (mainly required for PhD, not that necessary for MS, but having them works great for your selection)
5. Work experience.

Extracurricular activities doesn't pay much role in your selection. And don't always seek for Ivy Leagues, universities like Georgia Tech, Stevens, University of North Carolina, Maryland offers better career prospects than Ivy. The nave Ivy is highly exaggerated. Lookout for better funding and research opportunities.

I understand that a good number of 'seniors' here are accomplished engineers and/or scientists. I'm looking for some advice on well known institutions offering graduate programs in aerospace or mechanical engineering--and requirements for gaining admission.

Thanks,

You can go University of Waterloo's website for all the information.

Its a great Uni the top in Canada for Engineering by far. Has the highest respect in industry.

Uni just got a new quantum nono centre one of the biggest in the world.

Try HAN University of applied sciences in Holland if you could find your course. Its damn cheap as compared to UK/US/Canada universities. One of my cousin is doing his automobile engineering and only paying for his accommodation. No or very less tuition fees.

1. You need a Good GRE score, preferrably above 1450.

2. A good TOEFL score - this shouldnt be too difficult

3. Work experience is fine, you can connect that with your studies in your Statement of Purpose. I have friends who worked for 3 years and then did their MS. Obviously your resume would be a bit stronger, especially if you show, how your past education, work experience and the course you are aiming CONNECT. Basically you need to show you have a plan.

4. If you have white papers or research publications that will strengthen your profile. If you dont have this, but only work experience, then you can obviously use your work experience to cover up that weakness. You could talk about any patents you filed at work, or you could talk about any projects you did, and how it relates to your ambition etc.,

5. Aid is based on Gmat score, GPA etc., So try getting a good score.

6. Statement of Purpose - Very important. Make sure you are very specific, about what you want to do. have a short term goal (right after the degree), long term goal (5-10 yrs). Create a storyline, about how you did whatever you did (getting into engineering college or whatever, the challenges, the decision making effort, your projects in college etc), and how you got into your present job and why you wanna get a degree in whatever course you wanna do, and how a degree from this particular school will help you in your short term and long term goals. Also talk about how YOUR profile, experiences etc make you unique and about how your experiences will serve the community at the school.

That last part will take a lot of time and effort :) But go for it!
