I recently came across a couple of images of a new tactical bolt action rifle made by Kalashnikov Israel. This is the same company that made the futuristic AK ALFA. Images of the new rifle which is called OFEK-308 were published in March 2017 on the company’s Facebook page. Surprisingly there is no significant media coverage of this rifle. The reason should partially be the lack of any information about it. The riflewas not officially announced yet, too. Let’s take a look at these images and see what we can tell.
The designation “308” should mean that the rifle is chambered in .308 Winchester. Judging by the relatively long bolt stroke provision in the stock, it might be a modular weapon capable of being converted to long and magnum length chamberings, too. The bolt handle and bolt shroud shape are pretty reminiscent of that of Remington 700. I think this might not even be a completely new rifle but a chassis for the Remington 700 barreled action. But it is just my assumption.
The OFEK-308 features a quad rail forearm and an enlarged magazine well. The rifle is shown with CAA NBP bipod, CAA UPG16 pistol grip and CAA SRS or ARS stock.
The website of Kalashnikov Israel (www.kalashnikov-isr.com) links to the CAA website which is reportedly the parent company of Kalashnikov Israel.
This rifle is probably targeted to the market segment of firearms like Ruger Precision Rifle, Tikka T3x TAC A1 etc. I think the official introduction will be at SHOT Show 2018. If so, our readers will be one of the first to know about it!
