NSHR censures assault video
Saudi Gazette report
RIYADH — The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) has censured a video clip posted on social networking websites showing a citizen assaulting an expatriate worker, Al-Hayat newspaper reported.
Deputy President of the NSHR Saleh Al-Khathlan said the assault was in clear violation of human rights and is punishable by law. He added that the person filming the assault was an accomplice to the crime and voiced his confidence in the ability of security bodies to identify the offenders and bring them to justice.
“There is no excuse whatsoever for such an assault. If the worker exhibited any inappropriate behavior, then there are certain bodies that can deal with such behavior,” he said.
Majed Qaroob, a lawyer, said the worker in the video should not be pressured to relinquish his rights and said the offender should be referred to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution (BIP) where a court will decide the appropriate punishment.
“This video clip damages the country's reputation in dealing with expatriates. A possible prison sentence and/or lashes are awaiting the offender,” he added.
