NorthEast India's First IIIT To Rise Up In Tripura

Northeast India's first IIIT (Indian Institute of Information Technology) is all set ready to rise in Tripura. Yes, this IIIT will be set up soon, said a Minister here on Friday. Tripura Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty told reporters that "Union Human Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Sibal informed at a meeting in New Delhi Tuesday that northeast;s first IIIT would be set up in Tripura".

"The HRD Ministry has decided to establish 20 more IIIT's in the country in the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. In the first phase, five IIIT's would be set up in different parts of India, including one in Tripura", he added. Currently, there are four IIIT's in India namely, IIIT Allahabad, Gwalior, Jabalpur and Kanchipuram. These autonomous institutions are providing undergraduate as well as postgraduate technical education.

Chakraborty also said "The central government had decided to provide more financial aid to the northeastern states than the other parts of the country to set up the IIIT's". On an average, Rs.128 crore would be invested to set up each IIIT. Kapil Sibal, HRD Minister on Tuesday chaired a conference of State and Union Terrirories education minister in New Delhi.

The Minister also said that "To establish the IIIT's in the northeast, the central government would provide 57.5 percent share of the total cost while the stage government would give 35 percent share and the private or industrial houses' share would be 7.5 percent". In order to set up the IITs' in other parts of India, excluding the northeast region, the central governments' share would be around 50 percent and the industrial share would be around 10 percent.

The Tripura Minister quoted Sibal saying "as India is emerging as a global player in the field of information technology and the IT industry is expanding rapidly, manpower requirement is growing exponentially. In order to develop manpower for different areas of the knowledge economy education and training of information technology, the centre has decided to set up more IIIT's in the country".

We also need specialised institutes which will work in the fundamental science. We have for engineering, IT, management. We now should concentrate on fundamental sciences and have these opened in peaceful environments where the researchers and PHD aspirants can work with full vigour and energy. We should collaborate with CERN and TIFR in India for this.

We need more stuff like this:-

Indian neutrino lab to boast world's biggest magnet

The $250 million underground laboratory, called the Indian Neutrino Observatory (INO), will be built in the Bodi West Hills Reserved Forest in the state of Tamil Nadu. INO will be made of 50,000 tonnes of magnetised iron, dwarfing the 12,500-tonne magnet in the Compact Muon Solenoid detector at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. "It'll be the most massive magnet [ever built]," says team member M. V. N. Murthy of the Institute of Mathematical Sciences in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Noo. They would loose their value.

Boss to ek hi hota hai..

Why would they lose their value?

The Indian perception that crammed-up entrance competitions are the only way to select the best people rather than honing such skills in normal people and giving them the edge, is extremely wrong. That's exactly why most of our folks don't reach the potential they have.

India's education sector in all levels needs a very aggressive overhaul.
