LAHORE: A high level Chinese delegation led by NORINCO International Chairman and NORINCO Group Vice President Wang Yitong called on Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif here Thursday.

On this occasion, the chief minister said that Pak-China bilateral economic relations were improving with the passage of time, adding that signing of a memorandum of understanding between Punjab government and NORINCO was a welcome step to further accelerate the pace of progress in the province.

The experience and expertise of NORINCO International, he said, would be fully utilized in energy, transport, infrastructure and other sectors without wasting any more time.

Shahbaz Sharif said Pakistani people highly valued the love and sincerity of Chinese government and people, who always stood by Pakistan in difficult times. "I am pleased that in response to Punjab gernment's invitation, the NORINCO International's delegation immediately come to Lahore so that cooperation between Punjab and the Chinese company can be promoted in various sectors.

The chief minister said that a number of Chinese companies were working with Punjab government and construction of Arfa Karim Information Technology Software Park on Ferozepur Road was a glorious example of Pak-China friendship, asserting that solar lamps given to sudents on merit by the last PML-N led provincial government, were also purchased from a Chinese company.

The PML-N had always played a positive role in the promotion of Pak-China ties, he said that talks were held with NORINCO in 2009 for underground train system in Lahore but this project could not be completed as the previous federal government did not give sovereign guarantee in this regard.

He said Punjab government had Metro Bus Project completed within record time of 11 months with the cooperation of Turkey and 150,000 passengers travel through this modern and comfortable transport, which is a proof of success of the project.

The chief minister also resolved to execute public welfare projects without any delay, adding that rapid progress and cooperation with NORINCO International in various sectors would be ensured for speedy development in Punjab. The chief minister also set up a special taskforce for promoting cooperation between Punjab and NORINCO International.

NORINCO Chairman Wang Yitong congratulated Shahbaz Sharif on taking over as the chief minister Punjab for the third time and said that Shahbaz Sharif was a visionary leader, who would further pace up the economic uplift in Punjab during next five years.

He said, Metro Bus Project was a glorious project of Shahbaz Sharif, who has surprised everyone by completing this project in a very short period.

Wang Yitong assured that cooperation with Punjab government in energy, transport, infrastructure and other sectors would be promoted. He also invited Shahbaz Sharif to visit China.

Provincial Minister for School Education and Tourism Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, Food Minister Bilal Yasin, President NORINCO International Hu Farong, Vice President NORINCO International Wang Xiaobing and other senior officials of the company as well as top bureaucracy of Punjab government were also present.

MoU signed with Chinese firm for industrial city

The memorandum of understanding between Punjab government and Chinese company, NORINCO International, was signed by Planning & Development Punjab Chairman Sohail Ahmed and NORINCO International President Hu Farong.

Under the MoU, NORINCO International will extend cooperation to Punjab government for setting up an industrial city near motorway M2, construction of infrastructure for Metro training Lahore, launching of solar energy project, solar irrigation project and various projects of roads. Under the agreement, Chinese Company would provide financing, technical expertise and other services so that the projects could be executed expeditiously.

Shahbaz Sharif has said that the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Punjab government and Chinese Company, NORINCO, will further accelerate the pace of progress in the province

He said the experience and expertise of NORINCO International would be fully utilised in energy, transport, infrastructure and other sectors for the strengthening of provincial economy.

Shahbaz expressed these views while talking to a Chinese delegation led by NORINCO International chairman and NORINCO Group vice-president Wang Yitong during a meeting on Thursday. He said that he was pleased that in response to the invitation of Punjab government, a delegation of NORINCO International had immediately come to Lahore. He said a number of Chinese companies were working with the Punjab government and construction of the Arfa Karim Information Technology Software Park on Ferozepur Road was a glorious example of Pak-China friendship.

He said solar lamps given to students on merit by the Muslim League-N government were also purchased from a Chinese company.

The chief minister said talks were held with NORINCO in 2009 for underground train system in Lahore but the project could not be completed as the former federal government did not give the sovereign guarantee. He said the Punjab government had initiated metro bus project with the cooperation of Turkey for providing modern and comfortable transport facilities to the masses and the 27-km long metro track was completed in a short period of 11 months. He said the number of passengers travelling on metro buses had increased the figure of 1.5 million daily which was a proof of the success of the project.

The NORINCO International chairman invited Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to visit China.

Provincial minister Rana Mashhood, Minister for Food Bilal Yasin and other senior officials were also present.
