Staff Report

KARACHI: In a show of unmatched religious adhesion and national solidarity, Pakistan’s Christians, Hindus, Sikhs and Parsis joined the Muslims in their demands for the ambassadors of Holland and Denmark to be expelled for the blasphemous film and caricatures.

“We demand the Pakistan Government declare the Danish and Dutch envoys as personae non grata, and expel them,” stated the declaration of the “FAITH Conference” organized Sunday at a local hotel. Religious scholars of Islamic schools of thought and clerics of other faiths attended the FAITH (Fight against Intolerance, Terrorism and Hatred) Forum’s conference. They also appealed to the people to boycott the products of the countries involved in republishing caricatures of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Bishop Ejaz Inayat of the Church of Pakistan, Hindu Panchayat Committee Karachi President Amar Nath Motomal, Ealis of the Parsi community, Ja’afaria Alliance Chief Senator Allama Abbas Kumaili, former federal minister form religious affairs Aamer Liaquat Hussain, Mufti Usman Yar Khan of the JUI-S, Maulana Afzal Sardar of the Markazi Jamiat-e-Ahl-e-Hadees, Rafique Ahmed Khan of the Jamaat-e-Islami, Maulana Faisal Azizi of the Ahle-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat, Khuwaja Ameen Nizami of the Khuwaja Nizamuddin Auliya’s Shrine, Maulana Mirza Yousuf Hussain of the APSAC, Bohra community cleric Sheikh Zohaib, PPP MPA Shehla Raza and others spoke. “Holland, Denmark and other Western countries should respect the sentiments of the Muslims,” said Senator Kumaili, who is also the patron of the FAITH Forum.

He appealed to all followers of religions and enlightened people of the world to unite against conspirators who want to instigate a clash of civilizations and religions through hate materials.

He urged the International Federation of Journalists to take notice of Danish and Western media, saying that freedom does not mean to hurt the sentiments of the followers of other faiths.

Former minister Aamer Liaquat Hussain said that we cannot tolerate the Danish ambassador in the country. “The West has to choose between clash and dialogue. Blasphemous productions and dialogue cannot go together,” he maintained, adding that the Zionist lobby was behind the printing conspiracy. Bishop Ejaz Inayat said that he would support the Muslims in the International Court of Justice. “We shall help and support the Muslims,” he vowed, adding that freedom of expression has its limits, and nobody is allowed to mortify the feelings of the faithful in the name of freedom.

Condemning Denmark and Holland, the president of the Hindu Panchayat Committee, Amar Nath Motomal, urged the Government of Pakistan voice its strongest protest against Denmark and the other Western countries involved in republishing blasphemous caricatures.
