Saturday, April 20, 2013 - Lahore—Working simultaneously on a new electoral strategy of detaching itself from a nexus of religious hardliners and forging alliance with nationalist parties for upcoming elections, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Mian Nawaz Sharif has turned down a list of twenty candidates nominated by Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith (JAH) wannabe to contest elections from the platform of PML-N.

After PML-N’s knockback of awarding tickets to JAH aspiring candidates for the upcoming elections, the stake of political future of JAH for the first time appears jeopardized since its inception in Pakistan. JAH leadership in return has given clear signal to PML-N for tilting their political support towards Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) and called a meeting of Majlis-e-Aamla to decide the future political strategy on 20thApril in Lahore under the chair of JAH chief Senator Prof Sajid Mir.

JAH, a religio-political party, is the central Salafist organization in Pakistan that came into existence as a religious group but later transformed into a political party in 1986 under the leadership of late Ehsan Elahi Zaheer.

In the political arena the JAH has managed to have a marginal presence inspite of the fact that it does not have any significant public support. The JAH has been closely aligned with the PML-N group since 1986 that ushered it into the through a few members. JAH was also part of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), an alliance of Islamist parties that came into power with 11.3 percent of the popular vote at the 2002 elections. After breaking a long time traditional tie of political alliance with Jamat-e-Islami (JI), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Mian Nawaz Sharif has this time turned his back on Markazi Jamiat Ahle-e-Hadith by refusing them to give a single ticket of his party for the upcoming general elections, thus, ending his twenty five years old journey of friendly and political relationship.

According to the sources in PML-N, they have awarded tickets to JAH candidates in accordance with the strict seat adjustment formula decided between the chiefs of both the parties. “PML-N has given a PML-N ticket to JAH nominated candidates Hafiz Abdul Kareem for NA-172 DG Khan, Malik Zulqarnain Dogar for PP-172 Nankana Sahib and Kashif Nawaz Randhawa for PP-64. The sources further revealed that PML-N Punjab government JAH leader Malik Suleman appointed chairman of Punjab Bait-ul-Maal.
