The Directorate General of Military Operations of the Army does not have records of any “surgical strike” conducted before September 29, 2016. Responding to an RTI application filed by PTI, the DGMO at the Integrated Headquarters of the Defence Ministry (Army) said a “surgical strike” was carried out on September 29, 2016. “This section does not maintain records of any other surgical strikes, if any conducted earlier,” the reply said. It said a statement on this was issued by the DGMO at a press conference.

The RTI application with the Defence Ministry also sought the definition of the term “surgical strikes” in the records of Indian Army. The DGMO replied, “As per the information available in ‘open source’ the definition of ‘surgical strike’ is ‘…an operation which is planned based on specific intelligence, on a legitimate military target for maximum effect and with minimum or no collateral damage. It involves deliberate insertion to target area, precise execution and swift extrication of the body of troops back to the base’.”

The application asked the Defence Ministry if the “surgical strike” mentioned in a DGMO statement of September 29, 2016, was the first ever in the history of the Indian Army. It also wanted to know if the Army had carried out a “surgical strike” between 2004 and 2014.

The Ministry transferred the application to the Integrated Headquarters (Army) which sought information from the DGMO. The DGMO provided the responses which were forwarded to the petitioner by the IHQ (Army). The Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) was severely hit in the cross-LoC surgical strikes on terror launch pads carried out by the Indian Army with assessment reports of radio intercepts indicating that around 20 of its militants were killed.

In a well-calibrated operation, on the intervening night of September 28-29, the Indian Army moved across the LoC and smashed four launch pads that were under the guard of a Pakistani post located 700 metres from the LoC. “Based on receiving specific and credible inputs that some terrorist teams had positioned themselves at launch pads along the Line of Control to carry out infiltration and conduct terrorist strikes inside Jammu and Kashmir and in various metros in other states, the Indian Army conducted surgical strikes at several of these launch pads to pre-empt infiltration by terrorists,” the DGMO had said in a statement after the strike.

So India again caught pants down, Why you do that?
Now kiddies from Hindia can't sleep well at night.

The DGMO is right.
The September 29th OP is the first Surgical strikes we conducted, all previous cross border raids by us were defined as “limited-calibre, target-specific, counter-terrorist operations”
The Army carried out “limited-calibre, target-specific, counter-terrorist operations” across the Line of Control in the past too but this was the first time the government went public with the September 29 surgical strikes as part of a strategy, a parliamentary panel on external affairs was told Tuesday.

Here is a nice example of one such Indian Army raid from a Pakistani source:
By Air Marshal (Retd) AYAZ AHMED KHAN, PAF

This concept was tested out on March 22, 2000 at 0330 hrs when a Company of the Indian Army attacked a lone Pak Army post after midnight from three directions in the Iftikharabad sub-sector in the Chamb area. This somewhat solitary post between two tributaries of river Tawi was overwhelmed by intense artillery fire before the infantry assault. In the hand to hand fighting seven Pakistani Army jawans were martyred.

They humiliate and contradicting themselves all the time, I recall after the news first broke the hindutva types were jumping about saying that the government had evidence and was going to show it.

Then nothing came and they were left with excuses and the usual ego soothing bs

  2. Most of office bearers are picked by last govt and not dismantled by this govt.
  3. This agency gets funds from tax payers money to sustain anti-modi and sometimes anti-india propaganda
