ISLAMABAD: Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has shown his mettle as the interior minister by getting recovered a missing person within 24 hours of his disappearance besides preventing a possible kidnapping of another young man now formally named as the suspected killer of FIA prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfikar.
The FIA prosecutors suspected killer, Abdullah, who is in critical condition at a local hospital, was held from a private hospital in Islamabad some three days back by intelligence agencies personnel who posed as CIA men.
Without any information to the Islamabad Police and interior ministry, the intelligence personnel picked up one of Abdullahs attendants, Hasan, and took him to an undisclosed place. Abdullahs relatives claim that the Islamabad Police were approached but it was not ready to help to explain the cause of the raid or to register an FIR against the disappearance of Hasan.
On Wednesday afternoon, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was informed that one person had gone missing and another could be kidnapped anytime without an FIR or explaining any reason to their families for this CIA action.
Within hours of the interior ministers intervention, the so-called CIA men disappeared and then police got into action and formally got Abdullah arrested in the Chaudhry Zulfikar murder case.
Inspector General Police, Islamabad, confirmed to The News that he did not know who had raided the hospital prior to the Islamabad Polices intervention in the case. The IGP Islamabad, Bani Amin, categorically denied that the CIA was involved in the case in any manner. He said that the Islamabad Police arrested on Wednesday critically injured Abdullah, whose life is in serious danger because of a bullet injury that according to the police he received in the lower part of his backbone in an exchange of fire during the killing of the FIA prosecutor.
However, Abdullahs father insisted that his son was injured in an attempted robbery assault on him the same day when Chaudhry Zulfikar was murdered. He said that even the FIR of the attempted robbery and his sons injury was registered.
However, the fact remains that the Islamabad Police formally moved against the accused only following the intervention of the interior minister. Otherwise, the case was earlier handled by the so-called CIA men.
About Hasan, the attendant of Abdullah, the IGP said that he was neither taken into custody by the police nor did it know about his whereabouts. But the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khans intervention on Thursday afternoon ensured the release of Hasan from the illegal custody of the CIA men.
The police is confident that Abdullah is involved in the Chaudhry Zulfikar murder case. His father insists that he is innocent. It is now for the courts to decide whether he is a killer or innocent but Chaudhry Nisars intervention has upheld the rule of law that allows the accused a fair chance to defend his position instead of having been kidnapped by the agencies and rendered a missing person for weeks, months and years. The interior ministry, which has simply been impotent for several years when it comes to the issue of missing persons, has acted promptly and fairly under Ch Nisar Ali Khan.
