The topmost schematic shows the 1,200km-range subsonic Nirbhay nuclear-armed cruise missile, which will be available in both air-launched and submarine-launched versions. The ALCM version will be qualified for use by 20 specially customised Su-30MKIs, while the SLCM variant will go on board the S-2, S-3 and S-4 SSBNs.

The illustration below is that of a smaller, conventional warhead-armed air-launched subsonic variant of Nirbhay with a range of 750km, which will be qualified for launch from combat aircraft like the DARIN 3-standard Jaguar IS as well as Rafale M-MRCA.

Further details of this CALCM, now under development, can be found at:

TRISHUL: Nirbhay Cruise Missile Family Finally Revealed!

.
Points to note -

1) Nirbhay in ALCM and SLCM form will be a 1,200-km range missile, coming in the same range territory as China's CJ-10 ALCM.

2) The Nirbhay's N-armed property confirms it that there are tactical sub-kiloton N-warheads aplentry in Indian inventory.

3) Nirbhay is powred by an Indian engine, not any Saturn 36MT as previously stated by loony journos.

4) A conventionally-equipped Nirbhay-Mini ALCM with 750-km range for Jaguar DARIN-III & M-MRCA means miniuaturization of currently developed tech is underway.

5) The Arihant-class SSBNs each can carry upto 12 x such SLCMs.

-- In the commets of the said blog post Prasun says a pontoon-based launch of SLCM 1200-km Nirbhay will be conducted in early 2013 --.

And that the 1,200 km variant had already "been flight-certified for launch from Su-30MKI by CEMILAC earlier this year,".

Here is what the friends of supercritical defence journo Shiv Aroor thought the missile looks like -

Appreciating them for their efforts but they should have waited for some structural design cues to fall into place from some reputed sources instead of just assuming the design out of thin air.

Our desi bogus journos spread that news. Nirbhay engine engine is developed by GTRE which was shown in defexpo as Laghu Shakti engine.
