Illegal night vision for Naxals, NIA to probe

NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has detected that a Delhi-based company has illegally imported night vision devices from USA and supplied them to the Naxalites. Alarmed by the revelation, the home ministry has ordered the NIA to register a case.

NIA Director General SC Sinha told ET that a Delhibased private company had forged a certificate of the Jharkhand government to import night vision devices from USA and had hence given an impression that the Jharkhand government wanted the devices. "We have registered a case on March 19 after it was found that the Delhi-based company had forged the Jharkhand government's certificate to successfully procure the devices from USA and diverted the same to Naxalites. We are in the process of investigating the case," Sinha told ET.

The name of the company is not being disclosed for the purpose of investigation, but it's officials are being questioned. "The accused company made and used forged documents for illegal procurement by import from USA, of night vision devices for self-loading rifles for suspected supply to terrorist gangs or Naxalites in India for waging war against the Union of India," says the NIA FIR lodged under provisions of the IPC and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Night vision devices are a cutting-edge technology that can enhance fighting capability in the dark. CRPF has recently placed an order for the same. A night vision device can enable one to see at least 200 meters ahead in near-total darkness.

"Naxals have lately been found using night vision devices, bulletproof jackets and foreignmade weapons. The present case now explains how Naxals are laying their hands on imported equipment," an MHA official said. A similar case lodged by the Bihar Police last August regarding seizure of foreign made weapons and equipment meant for Naxals has also been taken over by NIA for further probe on March 19.

This case pertains to the arrest of three arms dealers by Bihar Police on August 29 last year from whom an AK-56 rifle, a Czechoslovakia made pistol and two Indian made pistols were seized.

I think Maoist should be brought to the table & asked what they want...

Their ideology doesnt seem terrorist to me, they just want to get rid of corrupts, and up the living standard of Indians, which Is India's top prioirty right now

The Maoists want to build a communist state like North Korea. Most of them are completely brainwashed by marxist ideology.
Many are simply forced by the Maoists to take up arms and to join them, killing anyone who is not ready to join or support them is usual for them.

Besides the sums which are spent for poverty reduction, infrastructure, economic development etc etc is immensely huge and goes way over 100 billion USD.... infrastructure spending alone will go over 100 billion USD in the coming years.

And these are only the Union figures...

This makes me wonder about the finances for the Naxals. We've read that they tax local villages and kidnap a few businessmen every now and then, but that should not make them wealthy enough to buy imported equipment. GOI should look closely at the money trail.

And it also shows that there are elements in the Indian society that support Naxal ideology. !!

The funny part is the Naxal unit which was to use these device was killed a few day back by State Backed Militias.

While latest reports say at least 17 Maoists have been killed, about 22 surrendered to the TPC, and who will in all probability be released after strict warnings by the TPC not to rejoin the CPI (Maoist). A sizeable quantity of weapons including 15 SLRs have also been taken away by the TPC which is not known to indulge in ruthless acts but is known to be carrying on extortion with gusto.

The three who stayed back met the CRPF officers on the spot. It is not difficult to identify them, the TPC's uniforms resemble that of the CRPF in every way except for the markings. ;) The TPC men took the officers around, pointing out the bodies," said a villager, who said 15 Maoists had stopped at his home before the encounter began.

@Necromancer

TPC is not state backed militias, because police arrested their members and commanders and sized their weapons in the past.TPC is breakaway fraction of maoists itself.and they were mainly formed by dalits, and they broke away because of the dominance of yadav class in CPI(Maoist).and they were no better than Maoists itself as their earning is also from extortion and various other crime.just matching of camo doesn't prove anything.you can buy dress with army camo in open market.

TPC fighters took CRPF officers to the bodies!!

Also Backing renegades and militias has been one of the most effective aspects of our counter-insurgency tactics
You must have heard of the Ikhwanis in J&K who were surrendered Militants and did help the Army massively.

And where does it exactly say that. !!

well its wrong to say that all were killed but among those 17 maoists who were killed and another 22 who were arrested, some were the top leaders....like general seceratery of maoist(bihar, jharkhand) etc etc...or better you can say that maoists are leader less in bihar and jharkhand now....rest are not gonna last long as our forces has been killed 80% of their leaders in recent 2-3 years of time.
